Fred DuVal Is Runnin' for Governor

Fred DuVal
Democrat Fred DuVal has made his candidacy for governor official, as one of only two Dems whose names have been tossed around in the media for the seat in 2014.

DuVal has a lot of titles you could use to describe him, like former underling to President Clinton and Governor Bruce Babbitt, lobbyist, unsuccessful congressional candidate, and Arizona Board of Regents chairman. (His campaign appears to prefer "business and education leader.")

It seems insanely early to talk about an election that's taking place well over a year from now, but DuVal seems to be the first person to make a run official, and he's already got a pretty good list of endorsements ("good" being a relative term, as Arizona's a little weak in the Democrat department).

House Minority Leader Chad Campbell is the only other Democrat whose name has been associated with a gubernatorial run.

On the Republican side, Governor Jan Brewer has repeatedly insisted that she can run for an unconstitutional third term, which she cannot.

Secretary of State Ken Bennett, Treasurer/ice-cream man Doug Ducey, Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, ex-Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, and state Senator Al Melvin are reportedly considering runs for governor, too.

The most milquetoast person to run for governor ever. This guy makes Terry Goddard look like Cory Booker. I predict if he makes it through to the general he loses by 15%. They needed to get someone exciting, not an also ran who nobody's ever heard of before.

Is this the best the Dems can do? This guy or Chad Campbell?

Snooze.

Nope, won't happen. Arizona's next Governor will be a Republican.

I hope Jan runs again. Any strong Dem will have an easy time with her. By now everyone in Sand Land knows how much of a dingbat she is. I gotta say, however, that none of the Dems mentioned in the article are "strong." That would require the Dem to be a household name, charismatic with some star power. Does anyone know who that might be?

@MotherJones I wouldn't worry about Dems because the next Governor, after Brewer's next term, won't be a "Dem"... I guarantee that!  Your wanting a Dem is why you are all so opposed to Voter ID laws so you can cast multiple ballots and allow dead people to vote. Well I got news for you.

@JoeArpaioFan If there was a requirement for mental competency, you would not be allowed to vote at all.

I tend to dress, and vote, to the right.  But, I hate to be associated with people like you Jaffy.  You make the entire Right side seem retarded somehow.

Jan will be running again and of course she will win by a landslide. That I can guarantee everybody.  Mark my words!

@eric.nelson745 It seems like both parties are in that same boat.  Nationally, we have no one that really kicks us in the ass and makes us want to get on board.

Obama is an empty suit, and brings the dynamic Joe Biden with him.

Romney? Santorum? McCain?  I wouldn't let my sister date either of them, nor would I support them with my vote.

Why, out of 300,000,000 plus people, can't we find an honest person of any color, either sex or party, that can really pull our heads out of our asses and put us up where we used to be?

@bob_lablaw96 @eric.nelson745 The answer is obvious - because of what we've allowed our electoral system to become.  No person of the type that you've desribed (1) can survive in the system as it currently exists; or (2) would be willing to subject themselves to the system as it currently exists.
