With his two home runs this afternoon, outfielder A.J. Pollock doubled his career total and drove in four runs to power the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 10-2 drubbing of the Pittsburgh Pirates at Chase Field.

The D-backs struck quickly, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. The early lead gave second-year pitcher Wade Miley plenty of room to breathe as he handled the Pirates with relative ease.

Miley tossed 6.2 innings two runs on five hits and three walks. He also struck out five Pirates to improve to 2-0 on the year. He also sports a handsome 2.13 earned-run average after two 2013 stars.

Relievers Brad Ziegler and J.J. Putz dispatched the Pirates with 2.1 innings of scoreless, no-hit ball on their get-away day.

In addition to Pollock's 3-for-5 day, rookie Alfredo Marte went 2-for-3 and scored a run and drove in one as well.

The Diamondbacks (6-3) will have Thursday off before the Los Angeles Dodgers (5-3 heading into Wednesday night's action) make the first of several visits to Chase Field this season. For the Dodgers, the best pitcher in the National League, Clayton Kershaw (2-0, no ERA), will take the mound against the D-backs' Patrick Corbin (1-0, 3.00 ERA). Kershaw has pitched 16 innings without giving up a run so far this season.

First pitch is 6:40 p.m. Radio: KTAR 620 AM. TV: Fox Sports Arizona. More info: www.dbacks.com.

Wow, what a start. Chris Young and Justin Upton combined are hitting .293 with 8 HR, 13 RBI,  14 runs and 7 walks with a .373 on base percentage and slugging .776.  On pace to combine for 144 HR, 234 RBI and 252 runs this season.

Oh, who do they play for this year?

Oh well, at least Martin Prado is hitting .273 with little power and and awful OBP, while  Cody Ross hits .125 in A ball, and Didi Gregorious hits .250 with zero power in Reno, a park where my grandma could hit .300 w/20 bombs.

Nice moves KT. We have no need for outfielders with Adam Eaton still hurt and Kubel watching balls sail past in left.
