Diamondbacks Defeat Yankees in 12 Innings, No Thanks to Dweeb Zack Hample

No thanks to a baseball-collecting douchebag, the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the New York Yankees last night in 12 innings, to avoid being swept in New York.

That baseball-collecting douchebag, a dork named Zack Hample, pretty clearly committed fan interference in the bottom of the ninth, when he -- wearing Diamondbacks gear -- reached over the outfield wall to catch a game-tying homer from the Yankees' Francisco Cervelli.

Hample is obsessed with collecting baseballs, to the point that he acts like a complete tool to obtain these baseballs, including committing fan interference, while wearing a team's colors for the sole purpose of collecting baseballs, and wearing a baseball glove, like you might see children do.

Now, as far as baseball's concerned, shortstop Didi Gergorius homered on the first pitch he saw as a member of the Diamondbacks, and Martin Prado also homered in the game.

Cervelli's ninth-inning homer tied the game at two, and batters for both teams pretty much limped through the ninth through 11th innings.

The D-backs were serious in the 12th, though.

Gerardo Parra started off with a double, and advanced to third after Prado flied out. Paul Goldschmidt then landed on first after Cervelli committed catcher's interference for the second time of the game.

Miguel Montero got hit by a pitch, and Cody Ross hit in the go-ahead run with a single to left.

Eric Chavez added the insurance runs with a bases-clearing double, and the Diamondbacks ended up winning 6-2, no thanks to narcissist Zack Hample.

Steve Berthiaume quote of the night:
Bob Brenly: "Well, you had me right up until the bubble bath."
Berthiaume: "If I had a nickel for every time I heard that."

Everyone should relax and enjoy the win. It might be the last time Didi Gregorious homers this year, he only had 23 in 5 years against minor league pitching. We might go weeks before he gets another extra base hit.

And nice to see Prado hit his 3rd HR. Upton only has 9, he's on pace for 100+ and over half way to last years total. Still not sure if it was that severely injured thumb he gutted out last year all season long, or his "lousy attitude" and poor "work ethic" that was responsible for him hitting only 17 last year. Apparently whatever it was, is fixed!

Well, folks, it looks like I was right.  Nothing substantive to say.  Just a derogatory remark.  And it doesn't even make sense!

3.That you would draw a correlation between the slogan/song lyrics “we back the D’backs” and a derogatory term for Hispanics speaks volumes about you and the undercurrent of racism that apparently clouds your perception of the world around you. While you may have just learned of the slogan from this year’s marketing campaign, my family and I have listened to the song that those lyrics are from for a number of years now and we’ve never made any connection between the lyrics and racism – but if that is where your head is at, so be it.And quite frankly, you half-hearted effort to pretend to be offended by the term is not very convincing.

For these reasons, you came across as a complete ass and your comments were simply asinine. There’s your substantive reply.Enjoy.

2.There is no reason that discussion of a baseball game must be stopped or postponed as a response to the terrorism that occurred in Boston. In fact, the Red Sox didn’t even stop or postpone play because of the events in their home town and the Boston papers covered last night’s Red Sox/Indians game extensively despite the police activity in Cambridge and Watertown.Your effort to somehow draw a correlation between the Diamondbacks game and the events in Boston is spurious at best, but really just plain ludicrous.

Honestly, your comment was so obtuse that it wasn't worthy of a substantive reply (and it was entertaining watching you get worked up).But since you want a substantive reply so badly, here it is:

1.Hample clearly reached into the field of play and potentially altered the outcome of the game in order to claim a $12.00 souvenir. If a working definition of narcissism is a selfish belief that your self-centered desires are more important than, and take precedence over, everything else around you – then taking a ball out of the field of play so that he could have the souvenir he desired and contribute to his own self-aggrandizing self-image that is dependent on collecting these souvenirs clearly meets that definition. While you may find Hample’s conduct defensible, Hendley obviously didn’t and expressed his opinion about Hample’s conduct, just like you expressed yours. To criticize Hendley for expressing an opinion while expressing your own is simply phony and hypocritical.

What is your problem at New Times?  Are you jealous of the baseballs this guy collected?  So, you resort to calling him uncalled for names.  I watched that game and the D-Backs played which is what you should focus on instead of some guy who likes to collect baseballs. I think your focus should really be on the two Russians who bombed Boston, if you want to call somebody names!  Oh yeah, D-Backs, maybe you should re-think your new slogan "WeBack DeBacks"  because the first thing I thought when I saw it was wetbacks (no offense meant).  You're just one letter off!

@cybercy_2000 @cybercy_2000 Oh, and though we’re all glad that you’ve just discovered the D-Backs’ Swing now and think its the team's "new slogan", the team has been playing it since Roger Clyne stated playing it in 2007.

Summer!
And the gang's all here
We've got green grass, red hots and ice-cold beer
We're baseballs' faithful Diamondback Fans
Backin' our home team
Back in the stands

Let's go ...
Three up, three down
Get the D-backs' swingin' and take it downtown
where it's ...

Going, going, going, gone!
It's outta here, boys, now bring it on home
It's a fact, Jack,
I back, you back, we back the D-backs!

@JohnQ.Public @cybercy_2000 Just another name-caller.  And why am I an ass?  It people like you and the writer of the article who are asses by calling people names instead of adding anything substantive to the conversation.  What is it about the guy who the writer calls "dweeb" and "douchebag", there is no call for that.  I like to think we still live in a civilized society.  Besides, anybody who can only resort to name-calling other people just because they don't like what they say or do don't have a brain resort to just name-calling instead engaging in a reasoned debate.  If that's the best you can come up with, I'd hate to have a normal conversation with you because you don't have anything to say.  And I bet your response to this post is by calling me another name which only shows your ignorance.  I will not respond to another post by you because you are not worth it.  I prefer enlightenment over ignorance any day.

@cybercy_2000 Fine, let me rephrase that.  Your comments are asinine.   On that I'm sure we can both agree.
