Arizona Cardinals Release Kevin Kolb, and the Quarterback Carnival Continues

Categories: Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have released quarterback Kevin Kolb, and the replacement plan isn't exactly reassuring.

Former Indianapolis Colts backup Drew Stanton joins Brian Hoyer, John Skelton, and Ryan Lindley as the Cardinals' quarterbacks -- a group of guys we couldn't say with 100 percent certainty would be starters at the Arena Football League level.

If anyone watched any post-Kolb Cardinals games last season, you'll remember that the team totally sucked with Skelton, Lindley, and Hoyer.

If you spent 2012 in a coma, here's all you need to know:

Stanton, in contrast, didn't embarrass himself at the NFL last season, because he hasn't thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2010. He's started a grand total of four games, with career totals of five touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Kolb won games while quarterbacking the Cardinals -- including the Cards' 4-0 start last year -- but he was often injured. He was due a big payday from the team, which is what led to his release.

Kent Somers, the Arizona Republic's Cardinals writer, expects that the Cardinals will either keep Skelton or Lindley, plus Hoyer, Stanton, and quarterback picked next month in the draft.

The quarterback class is seen as weak, but it's not like there's nobody there -- West Virginia's Geno Smith, USC's Matt Barkley, Oklahoma's Landry Jones, Tennessee's Tyler Bray, and U of A's Matt Scott are just a few of them.

And that's as optimistic as we can possibly be.

The Cardinals Carnival has been running since 1932, fooling the fans for 81 straight years.

The cardinal tradition continues.  They were one of the negatives when I did my analysis were I would live.  Thankfully I have cable and can watch some really good teams.

I thought the Cardinals picked someone from Argentina, and are now comparing tight ends.

Kevin Kolb had a $2 million roster bonus due tomorrow.  Enough said.

@JohnQ.Public The past couple years, watching the Cards has been kind of funny.  This year, it will just be VERY sad.
