I can see why Sheriff Joe Arpaio has the "People Against Sheriff Joe Arpaio" facebook page monitored. He is well aware of the cruel and inhumane acts that he, and those working under him, have been party to. It is only natural that people hate and fear him. But dragging everyone who threatens to "kill him" to court will surely suck up a lot of tax dollars. My wish for Sheriff Joe Arpaio is that he end up in one of his own "tent city" prisons, complete with fluffy pink underwear.

why do i sense this article seems to downplay what really happened. for christ's sake, it was a threat and threats are illegal. the suspect can be charged with terrorist threats by the feds and he should be. i bet that if penzone or the phoenix police chief was threatened instead, this article would call for his balls to be chopped off.

Un sentenced (IE innocent UNTIL proven guilty) suspects in custody dying at the hands of guards, and no investigations. Pissed away or stole 100 million dollars. Dont get me started on the jail commissary funds either. He hides his personal financials, even though its required by law, and he tried to charge Stapley with it for doing much less. Shall i continue???

Deborah Braillard, 46, was documented as a diabetic in the jail's health records. Her cellmates say a nurse did not give Braillard insulin, and then detention officers ignored her when she went into diabetic shock. Braillard died on January 23, 2005, ultimately from lack of insulin. The family sued.

Dr. Todd Wilcox, then Director of the jail’s medical program, testified at the trial that dangerous problems with the Sheriff’s Office’s medical screening of detainees, the lack of proper training of jail staff, deliberate indifference and a culture of secrecy were factors in Braillard’s death. He described an unwillingness to improve training, conditions and access to medical care for inmates and detainees. In an all too typical fashion the Sheriff’s Office had destroyed evidence and faked documents. %s

On November 20, 2012, the case settled for $3.25 million. In addition, the case cost Maricopa County taxpayers more than $2.2 million in attorney’s fees. With other fees and expenses, the total cost to the County was over $6 million. It took so long – 7 years – and cost so much money because the Sheriff used every possible delay tactic, including senseless motions for a new judge and to exclude witnesses. The County, of course, has no insurance for any of this.

@Hal99 Here is an example of Joe Arpaio being "the best sheriff in America." There are thousands of similar cases.

Brian Crenshaw was serving a short sentence for shoplifting. He was legally blind. Crenshaw refused to show his ID in a lunch line and Sheriff’s deputies pushed him to the wall, punched and kicked him, and placed him in lockdown. For the next six days, nobody entered or left his cell.

Crenshaw was found unconscious with a broken neck, several broken toes, and extensive internal injuries. He was comatose, his intestines had ruptured, and his vertebrae needed to be straight-ened with a halo. Doctors told Crenshaw's mother that his internal injuries were so severe they had to surgically open his stomach to relieve swelling. He died as a result of injuries that had been untreated for six days.

The family sued and the lawsuit against Arpaio and his office resulted in an award of $2 million. In an all too typical pattern, Arpaio's office destroyed evidence in the case, making it more diffi-cult to prosecute.
