Ian MacDonald's Lawyer: Cops Have "Exactly Nothing"; Also Says Client Has "Top Security Clearance"

Categories: Death Valley

"It should be noted that [MacDonald] was the [first] 911 caller who advised that his Girlfriend has been stabbed in the face by a Bouncer who took off running," the probable-cause statement says.

MacDonald's girlfriend, 22-year-old Samantha King, had not been stabbed in the face.

A probable-cause statement cites three anonymous acquaintances of MacDonald, who said MacDonald admitted to them he had the knife -- and stabbed Thompson. All three of these acquaintances told police that MacDonald said he'd chucked the knife in a dumpster in Mesa. One person said MacDonald admitted to putting the knife in a Ziploc bag of liquid bleach before tossing it in the dumpster.

MacDonald faces a second-degree murder charge, and King was arrested on charges of assault and hindering prosecution.

He admitted he was fighting with Thompson, another bouncer saw Thompson get up and off of MacDonald, stagger away and collapse.  3 of MacDonald's friends claim he told them he did it and disposed of the weapon.  Yah, counselor, they have exactly nothing.

Hey Martini Ranch employees....where in the hell were you?  Don't you have your own fellow employee's back covered?!  This one should never have happened....this situation was because no one was watching Mr. Thompson's back!  this on is on you Martini Ranch employees.

The case does seem sort of weak. I bet he gets off or at least takes a plea agreement that significantly lowers the punishment.

Mr MacDonald's security clearance is of no importance (and he doesn't actually have one unless he's on active duty). He'd be in just as much trouble if he were a Medal of Honor recipient. The cops have submitted a probable-cause statement. MacDonald has been charged and bail is set at $75,000. He's not goin' anywhere.

@resh doesnt seem weak to me..so they dont have an eyewitness, but they have him calling 9-1-1 for an obvious false reason..they have his friends saying he admitted it...his record might help at sentencing, but its not going to absolve him....

Not True, you can have clearance and not even be military.

@david_saint01 That's why I said sort of. There's no murder weapon, no witness who can place MacDonald with a knife at the crime scene, and nobody witnessed the victim actually getting stabbed. On the other hand, McDonald's bizarre phone call to police about his gf getting stabbed doesn't help his case; neither does the three anonymous acquaintances who incriminated him. That said, the defendant has to be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt. Given the totality of evidence against McDonald, as well as the evidence for him, I think it's fair to say that this isn't going to be an "open and shut" case (which would make it a "sort of" weak case, at least in my eyes).

@CMONSON Yes, you can be a civilian and have a clearance... Look, Barack Obama is cleared for TOP SECRET/COSMIC!!! However, since MacDonald was not on active duty, it is highly unlikely that his clearance would be active.
