According to local news reports, Wood was shot by gunmen demanding his new Air Jordan sneakers, a few pairs of which Wood and a friend had just purchased at a local mall.
The driver of the car reportedly bailed, while Wood tried to drive away after being shot. He crashed between a couple houses, and was pronounced dead at a Houston hospital.
Two of the accused gunmen, Neal Bland, 18, and Keagean Arrington, 19, were charged on Friday in Wood's murder, a day before his brother decided he would play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against Navy.
The third teenager, 19-year-old Anthony Wade, was charged yesterday.
As for Grice, this is his first year at ASU, after transferring from a junior college a couple hours outside of Houston. Although ASU seemed to be pretty stacked at the running back position with senior Cameron Marshall and freshman D.J. Foster, Grice arguably was the best of the three, with the most touchdowns and highest rushing average.
In Saturday's bowl game against Navy -- a 62-28 ASU victory -- Grice rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns. He was named the offensive MVP.
