Joe Arpaio Releases List of Posse-Patrolled Schools, Talks Publicity Stunts

Sheriff Joe Arpaio describes what his fellow geezers will be doing on patrol.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio today released a list of schools that are going to be patrolled by armed, volunteer members of his posse -- two days after those patrols started.

Arpaio repeated a claim that the "only difference" between a sworn deputy and a posse member is that the posse members aren't paid -- a claim that has been debunked in recent days by Stephen Lemons.

Arpaio acknowledged that people have referred to this move~~, and almost everything else he does,~~ as a "publicity stunt."

"Let's say it is," Arpaio said, while standing in front of a gigantic MCSO van, parked outside an Anthem elementary school. "I want everyone to know what we're doing out here.

For good measure, Arpaio said, "You could say everything I do is a publicity stunt."

We could, and we usually do.

Arpaio said there are 59 schools that will be patrolled by posse members, and when a reporter tried to confirm that Arpaio said "a few" posse members would be carrying fully automatic weapons, Arpaio said, "What's the problem?"

For one, they're not cops.

To give context, there were 6 inistances of shootings at schools in the U.S. in 2012. There were 26 instances in which people died from being struck by lightening in the U.S. in 2012. While I don't want to minimize the horror and sorrow of each school shooting, the reality is that you were 4 times more likely to be struck by lightening in 2012 than be involved in a school shooting situation. As long as these pretend cops sit outside the school in their patrol cars and don't have access to the schools then everything should be fine because there is statistically a greater likelihood that there will be a child hit by lightening on the playground than there will be a shooter coming into the school.

Thank god my kids school is not on that list, although 2 schools I taught at are. For those of you on here daily speaking about how "one sided" this paper is.......STOP READING IT FOR GODS SAKE!

New Times articles about Sheriff Joe are a joke! Talk about one-sided, yellow journalism. Amazes me how a college-educated journalist can accept writing crap because it is for an "alternative" publication. Good example is Free Times reporting on medical marijuana and the sheriff. Every article talks about how Joe is gonna bust all of the compassion clubs and first dispensiaries, yet the MCSO has never bothered the MMJ community. If you are gonna write news, you have to substantiate your claims.

I saw this report on Ch. 12. It seems that it'll be organized much like neighborhood watch patrols. All off-campus. Armed and riding in SO-marked vehicles. Just one incongruity here. Most trainers of neighborhood watch groups are adamant that participants NOT go armed. That, among other things, was Geo. Zimmermann's big mistake that cost the life of an innocent teen.

This is unmother fucking believeable, somebody need to stop this fucking lunatic and his posse of unexperienced old farts and seemingly criminals before something horrible happens. If there are really pedophiles and felons in this posse, how the kids are going to be protected, it's like puting them in a candy store. I would not be surprised if this is true since this fucking corrupt shurf seems to love that kind of people,have to remember he did not do anything at all on those 400+ cases allowing the child molesters to continue molesting the same child over and over again, he might be a perverted one also, remember when, at tent city he allowed the female immates to throw the pink panties at him, and this is the supposedly toughest shurf, what a fucking joke.

Kids are going to be in more danger with these unexperienced posse, what would happen if they have to go change depends and a criminal shows up right then?, are they going to throw the depends full of shit at the criminal, or the "felon" posse member is going to start shooting ramdomly, killing the children,.

@eric.nelson745 @comrade A lot of Arpaio's deputies have criminal records. Remember Detective Timothy Abrahamson? He was arrested at his workplace on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault filed in Cass County, North Dakota. He was accused of brutally assaulting a man who had an affair with his wife. Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office granted immunity, in exchange for testimony, to Steven Carpenter, another Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy who allegedly rode to West Fargo with Abrahamson.

The victim, 41-year-old Jason Swart, lost part of his right ear in the attack and suffered serious facial cuts.

@comrade I would also worry about the kids making fun of them and GETTING blown away by some old coot with an AR-15 or AK-47 or similar assault rifles. I also worry about a real criminal shooting them and taking their guns to add to theirs for more carnage.
