Could a Recall Effort Against Sheriff Joe Arpaio Be Successful?

Sheriff Joe Arpaio
A political committee that's apparently going to try to recall Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio filed its registration paperwork with the county elections department yesterday.

Now, all the recall effort needs is more than 300,000 signatures to trigger a recall election, and enough votes for a candidate to defeat Arpaio in that hypothetical election.

We don't have all the details on who's behind this recall effort, or how legitimate it's going to be.

However, if the last election's any indication, this is the most vulnerable Arpaio's ever been.

This morning's question: Could a recall effort against Arpaio be successful?

People should recall the politicians that aren't doing what their supposed to be doing. Not the ones that are doing their jobs.

Nope it won't be sucessful. Everybody who signs the petition will have their name and addresses and possibly their picture posted on the internet.

I don't know how this will go. On one hand, Maricopa County is flooded with racists and/or people who will support this guy regardless of his scandals all because of his slogan, "America's Toughest Sheriff." However, on the other hand, his supporters must be blatantly ignoring media coverage of his scandals to be re-electing him every term. Clearly nobody consciously aware of the millions his office has been sued for would vote for him again, so maybe they could remain oblivious of his recall and not show up to the polls to save him.

He won by a majority but I think 60-ish % of voters turned out. If the other 40% are against Sheriff Joe and can be mobilized...it can work. It is a good thing to try. Show the rest of the country that there are people in Arizona that are against Joe and for human rights.

Really? Someone actually posted "on what grounds"? I would have to ask on what planet do you live?

Maybe if they count all the votes in the Latino districts instead of issuing provisional ballots. But even then there are still too many old conservative whites and neo nazis in Maricopa County to overcome.

Recall on what grounds? What would need to happen for this to manifest/work?

No, its never gonna happen. It's a rediculous waste of time and enthusiasm better spent on realistic goals.

I stands about as good of a chance as the Phoenix New Times NOT posting a daily Sheriff Joe article or poll.

Considering he won by 7 tenths of a percentage point and the debacle with the ballot counting or lack thereof there is s good chance for the recall to work.

Nah - I like Joe. Counting on him for some old fashion justice in a currently pending case.

This retiree will vote for the alternative unless its someone worse, like Russell Pearce.

To take what David says one step further, if the retiree's aren't here when the recall election happens. Timing is important.

It depends on the circumstances. If his retiree supporters have no other reason to go to the polls, they won't show up to save his ass.

Probably won't be successful because Joe panders to all the racist fear that exists in Maricopa County.

IF this recall of the Flaccid Failure of MCSO is successful, I owe those people a shot of Captain Morgan.

@shadeaux14 Tisk, tisk, tisk. There's no "probably" about it, it won't happen. And what's this about racist?  In case you don't know it there are thousands of legal Hispanic citizens and immigrants who support Joe because they too are tired of illegal aliens invading our country by coming here and wanting to jump the line.  I suppose you call them racist too.

@MaskedMagician1967 I hate to disappoint you but there will be no recall.  Did you know that if you have signed the petition your name and address and quite possibly your picture will be posted on the internet. It will be.

@JoeArpaioFan @MaskedMagician1967

lmao Jaffy, the Arizona Constitution, simply put, calls for the purity of elections and allows for a recall of a politician for any or no reason.

Just ask now twice-disgraced, corrupt, narcissistic and mentally sick Pearce.
