Arizona Cardinals Pick Bruce Arians to Walk on Water, Coach the Team to Victory

Bruce Arians
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has been hired as the man to lead the Arizona Cardinals to victory, which ranks somewhere between walking on water and healing a blind man, as far as miracles are concerned.

Arians got his first head-coaching experience this year, when Colts head coach Chuck Pagano was out for 12 weeks while being treated for leukemia, and Arians coached the team -- with a rookie quarterback -- to a 9-3 record.

The Cardinals' previous coach, Ken Whisenhunt, was fired after the end of this season, in which the Cardinals sucked the big one, and ended with a 5-11 record.

Whisenhunt did coach the Cardinals to the Super Bowl once upon a time, but he was canned after three consecutive seasons of mediocre-to-crappy football.

Defensive coordinator Ray Horton was in the mix to take over the job, and he didn't take too kindly to being passed over for the gig. Word is, Horton's out, and Philadelphia defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is supposedly in.

It's been noted that the Cardinals were the last team that needed a head coach to hire one after this season, and ESPN says Arians was the sixth candidate interviewed by the Cardinals.

A very similar situation played out last year as ASU was searching for a new coach, before grabbing Todd Graham, and that turned out better than expected -- so that may not be cause for concern.

Still, Arians is coaching the Cardinals, a perennial display of mediocrity, so he'd have to royally screw up to get the Valley pissed at him.

As long as they actively support cannabis prohibition, screw them. Nothing against the players, but the owner & management are obviously tools.

I guess since that's all that's left, you get what you get. There were better opportunities but those were missed.

Cant believe his first action as HC was getting rid of Horton. NOT a great start. He is self absorbed.

Why does Arizona have some of the worst owners in professional sports? Sarver, Bidwells, the buffoons at the D-backs, who owns the Glendale ice dopes?

Bill Bidwell took over sole ownership of the Cardinals in 1972.  In the 41 seasons since then, the team has had a total of 9 winning seasons.  9 winning seasons TOTAL.  That means that the team has had a winning percentage above .500 in just 22% of the seasons since Bill Bidwell took over complete control of the team.  The Cardinals have had a total of 3 winning seasons in the 25 years since moving to Phoenix.  The Cardinals absolute suckiness has nothing to do with coaching and everything to do with ownership.  The Bidwell family does not know how to assemble a winning football team. Period.  End of story.  As long as they own the Cardinals this team will never experience consistent, long term success.

@Michael Schilling hmm like maybe they should have gotten Andy Reid? he was the best coach out there.

@JohnQ.Public John Q. your comment may be spot on. Take the Steinbrenners and the New York Yankees as an example of how ownership can affect outcome. The Yankees have winning teams almost every year and they are often in the post season.

Hiring this new guy as coach will only be helpful if the right players are hired, as well. We know that, he knows that, and the owners SHOULD know that.

Whiz was considered a genius the year he almost won the Superbowl for the Cards. A few years later the owners put him out to pasture. Just sit and watch what the Chargers do to the Cards next year with Whiz as Offensive Coordinator.

Maybe the Bidwells will learn from this. Nah..... sorry....
