Obama Campaign Reportedly "Gives Up" on Arizona -- Surprised?

President Obama's campaign manager Jim Messina says they're done trying to win Arizona, now that the election's a few days away, according to Politico.

"Messina called Arizona an 'enticing prospect' and said that public and private polling has shown the state fairly close," the Politico report says. "But the Obama adviser emphasized that the president expects to win the election with the votes of more traditional swing states."

Out of the eight companies that polled Arizona voters about the race between Obama and Mitt Romney, only one of those companies ever came back with an Obama lead -- and that same company showed Obama leads in Arizona three times.

Most New Times readers weren't really buying the Obama lead, according to one of our highly unscientific reader polls.

That said, does team Obama's new strategy of ehh, maybe next time, Arizona surprise anyone?

His goal shouldn't have been to win but lay the groundwork for later. The Democratic Party has potential for the future, especially within the next ten years to start moving this state back to sanity but to do that his campaign should be focused on getting votes here now, connecting with younger people and some older people so the future looks better. It amazes me how little people see and plan for the long game.

So, Barry doesn't care about the 47% of Americans in Arizona?  He doesn't intend to represent us if, by some chance, he is given a second try at this thing called "being the President?"

We must have some really crappy golf courses for him to give up on us like this.

I can almost bet that if the Holder Justice Department indicted the Flaccid Fucknut, Dave Henderbulk, Candy Andy Thomas, and Aubuchon, Obama would have EASILY won Arizona.

I even told his campaign that when I donated $20.

lets see, we have sheriffs who are killing themselves in drunk driving accidents, sheriffs who routinely kill people in their custody, sheriffs who have had improper relations with minors when they were headmasters at a school, a governor who is all for carrying guns in places that serve open alcohol (concealed weapons on top of that), the same governor who is still drawing government checks for her son "the knife point rapist" while he is serving time, the same governor who used her political connections to avoid a DUI, a sheriff who would rather arrest dishwashers and landscapers instead of rapists and child molesters, political players whom many of which are being investigated for being crooks, others who are crooks and still in office, a police agency that most of the higher command was let go for being crooks, border agents that kill each other, sheriffs deputies who were involved with the drug cartels and human smuggling.......... and people who not only allow this shit, THEY KEEP RE-ELECTING THESE IDIOTS!!!!  and people wonder why they dont campaign here or spend more time with us? the better question is....WHY WOULD THEY WANT OUR SUPPORT?

On the bright side Arizona has been spared, for the most part, from the annoying political ads spewing forth almost non stop. In the "swing states" anyway. There's really not more than about a dime's worth of difference between Bronco Obama and Mettmeister Romney.

Whomever wins on Tuesday, isn't much going to change for Americans.

Obama was not going to win Arizona no matter what he did. We have too many old blue hairs and rednecks here right now. Add to that the state manipulators.... err... politicians who are too obstructionist and personal power protecting to actually govern per the will of the people for Arizona to go blue.

One of these years Arizona will grow up and join the 21st century society we have in the US, but it's not going to be this year or any year until we clean up our own legislature.

To that end, I have no problem with Obama not spending a lot of time here. Arizona is part of a country, not a country in and of itself and the best thing for the COUNTRY was that attention be placed where it was needed, not where it would be wasted.

That's just good resource management.

 @coyote_slim

I Agree with the first sentence wholeheartedly, my sister lives in a swing state (CO) and it sucks....

However the rest of your post is BS. There is a lot of difference between them, mainly one (Obama) wants to actually fix things and has put us on a steady path to do so. Not a racetrack, but a path that will rebuild a good base and it is working.

The other (Romney) wants to put more money in his and his friends pockets rather than paying their fair share. My dog pays more taxes than Romney does.

Add to that the outright, blatant and often lying of the Republicans and that I could give you a list that would overload NT's blog software easily, but let's just look at 1, the Jeep ad and comments. 1000% entire bullshit, not at all true but what does Romney do? Not only double down on his comments with the ad, but then triples that by doing a radio ad too.

Obama may not be perfect and there are a lot of things about him I do not like, but I haven't seen him repeatedly lie straight to the american people face, get caught, refuse to retract and just keep saying it louder and louder, all the while refusing to answer reporters questions since he knows they caught him on his bullshit.

Like I said I can go on but won't. I will just encourage you to do your own research and make up your own mind based on facts, not hype.

bob_lablaw96

@Flyer9753 We really should strive to be more like the political machines of Chicago, or the State of Illinois.  That would have gotten his attention, and his attendance.

The man is an empty suit that has had four years to try and fix the stuff he promised to fix.  Those things are still broken. Though I doubt that Mitt will be able to fix them either, I would rather have a new approach than a repeat of a failed performance.

We are not all old, blue haired, and mentally impaired.  Some of us have seen the history of the country, good and bad, and have different views on what needs to be done to get back to good history.  A President with some experience in the real world might just make a better choice.

Like Pelosi said about the Obamacare bill, "We will not know what is in it until we pass it."

The bailouts that were never repaid, and we were left owning a substantial part of GM and Chrysler?

The hits will just keep on coming. But, can we expect much to be different under Mitt?  Sadly, no. It will be the same old shit we have had to endure for years.  We have no option to mark, "NONE OF THE ABOVE" on our ballots, and find a worthy leader.  Even if we could, the leader would become as corrupted as the rest of our Congresscritters, and we would still be in deep shit.

The whole thing comes down to the answer of, "Do you feel that you have a better life under the Obama Administration than you might under a different leader?"  If you said yes, you are living on entitlements and blind to reality.

@bob_lablaw96  You really are uninformed, aren't you?

Mitt had a disastrous term as MA Governor.

He RAISED taxes on all Bay State residents by instituting RomneyCare (Know where ObamaCare comes from? MITT ROMNEY and RomneyCare).

He hired illegal immigrants to provide landscaping services to his $12M Belmont, MA estate (Mitt has said he will veto the DREAM Act if passed)

And jobs? Yeah, Mitt knows all about jobs. When the Big Dig tunnel went up in Boston, it was so poorly constructed that the ceiling collapsed. The project also ran massive deficits.

Mitt isn't in touch with the middle class, never has been and never will be.

BTW, the Great Depression was going on for 6 years (1929-1935) when FDR pulled America out of it through his New Deal program and his creation of Social Security.

@Flyer9753 Leave no man behind.  There was 7 hours in which to respond.  Assets in Italy ( Marine Force RECON, were closer than those which responded from Tripoli.  The unarmed predator surveillance was  handed off at least once.  Armed Predators are in the area. Why were they not dispatched.  Laser designaters were in use.  F8 Hornets of F15s could have been used to deliver smart munitions on the bad guys. The ready birds from the 5th fleet could have been on station in under 30 minutes.

Obama's instructions have never been published.  Based on the historical records, Had Bush (1 or 2) or Reagan been in office, the Presidential orders would have been clear and simple. "Get my people out of there."   Obama had a communication problem.  Communication problems from the White House to all of the Major Commands is not possible unless the WH is totally destroyed.

Before you spout the Obama line you need to understand how the hated Military works.  You need to understand the Code by which it operates.

If you were stranded in a flash flood while hiking, you would expect rescuers to come to save you.  The military lives by that same code only more so.

Actually, Bush did not enjoy that privilege for the last two years of his administration, and was blocked by the Dems from doing much of anything, in the hope that a fellow Lib would be elected.

We have an utter failure as our leadership.  Obama is totally unprepared for the job of President, and has no experience to draw from, other than his last disastrous years of bobbing and weaving.

If we would not be so rudderless, it would be a great deal to toss every one of those fuckers out of office and begin anew.  No lobbyists allowed; term limits on all offices; public financing of campaigns; transparency for all foreign aid.  There are more areas needing attention, but the point is made.

No.

My direct refuting of your "There's really not more than about a dime's worth of difference between Bronco Obama and Mettmeister Romney." is not conjecture, it is FACT and I can give you a lot more of them if you would like.

Obama wants war??? This is the President that is getting us out of the 2 wars we are in now and NOT rushing to get us into another with Iran, whereas Romney has stated very clearly that he wants a more direct handling of Iran, including troops on the ground IN IRAN! That is war. That is the definition of war when you place your troops inside another counties borders and they are not an ally of yours.

"Renditions, illegal detentions, and that ever so keen torture" - oh you mean the programs BUSH started? The ones that when it came to light there was so much outcry that 2 of those were stopped before he left office?

The third, illegal detentions. This was one of Bush's babies. I agree it should not have happened and to that end Gitmo needs to be closed, the people their need to either be tried in a court of law or released. But who blocked that? Oh that's right, REPUBLICANTS.

I do not agree with the drone strikes either, but that program was started under Bush and since this is NOT a dictatorship it's not just up to me or Obama to stop that program. There is congress and the GOP who want MORE drone strikes. The same GOP that has the wonderful (not) record of 385 filibusters during Obama's term.

Jeep ads are NOT a distraction, they are a LIE along with all the other LIES that Romney has told in an attempt to get into office. If you have no problem with someone like Romney who lies as easily as he walks across a room, that is of course your right, but it's a stupid outlook to be blunt. Do you allow it when your bank lies to you about how much money you have in your account or do you fight it if you think they are wrong? Same thing.

Do I like everything Obama has done, as I originally stated, no.

But to look at the two and say they are "not more than about a dime's worth of difference" is utter bullshit based on the facts and performance history.

Vote for whoever you like as will I, I would recommend a vote for one or the other otherwise at this point in time, your vote is wasted since no one else other than the primary 2 has a hope in hell of winning.

Your say you are up to speed on the facts. Your posts clearly show otherwise.

@bgray59  @Flyer9753 The facts will show that the Ambassador TRAVELLED TO THE CONSULATE in the midst of the battle to help evacuate staff which was there and was caught in a fire fight, placed into a safe room of a building which subsequently caught fire and he died of smoke inhalation.  I doubt that when he entered the safe room he thought the whole building would catch fire, and that he would be picked up on a return trip.  I'm guessing the White House knew all this and don't want to reveal their sources and methods to the public and our enemies by saying so, no matter how much traitors like you want them to.

BTW - They caught the "bad guys".  Until you know the whole story, stop insulting the men and women of our military by implying they are not up to the job.  Oh, and if you didn't know - President Obama, by virtue of him being the Commander In Chief of the Armed Services is also a soldier and a member of our military now.  So, insult him at your peril dumbass.

@bgray59  As long as we are recounting embassy attacks and contrasting Obama to Bush and Reagan, we need an accurate recounting of the embassy attacks that occurred while Bush was President in order to have a complete and accurate discussion:

6/14/2002: U.S. Consulate In Karachi, Pakistan attacked by car bomb killing 10 and injuring 51

7/30/2004: U.S. Embassy In Uzbekistan attacked by suicide bombers killing 2 and injuring 9

12/5//2004: U.S. Consulate In Saudi Arabia attacked by gunmen with grenades killing 8

9/12/2006: U.S. Embassy In Syria attacked by gunman with grenades

1/11/2007: U.S. Embassy In Athens attacked with an anti-tank grenade

2/21/2008: U.S. Embassy In Serbia attacked and set on fire

9/16/2008: U.S. Embassy In Yemen attacked by 2 car bombs killing 10

If you want to invoke Reagan, we can have a complete discussion about the strategic and tactical errors that led to the deaths of 241 servicemen and injuries to 60 more in Beirut in 1983.

Of course we should also include in the discussion the 19 service members that died in the bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia while Clinton was President.

If you want to have a full, non-partisan discussion of failures in embassy secure and response or of appropraitely supporting Americans sent into harms way, that conversation will obviously include all of these events under both Democratic and Republican administrations, right?  RIGHT?!?

@bgray59 Or... GWB sent them in harms way for no reason. That's the accurate one. Don't let the facts get in your way.

@bl4ckb34rd I accused Obama of allowing men to die because he does not have the courage or the integrity to support the men he sends in harms way.

Agree or disagree with GWB foreign policy, GWB supported people he sent in harms way.

@bgray59  Hilarious... I think your brain is not firing correctly, as you mentioned GWB in the same paragraph that you accuse another president of failing at foreign policy.

I watch all the major news outlets in this country as well as several in others (wonder of the internet) and independent journalists like The Young Turks and others.

Then I research and make my own decisions based on all the above.

And bl4ckb34rd is right, Fox is about the level of comedy central in accuracy, presentation and bias.

@Eleanor_Holguin @Flyer9753 Hell yes I watch it! Funnier than comedy central!
