John McCain's Theory of Obama Misleading Public on Benghazi May Be in the Toilet

mccain-tongue-side.jpg
After officially making President Obama upset over the finger-pointing related to the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, it turns out that Senator John McCain may not have been correct.

McCain's been blaming the White House for U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice's initial comments that the September 11 attack on the consulate was "spontaneous," and McCain has floated the idea of a White House "coverup" pretty heavily.

It turns out that the phrases "attack," "Al Qaeda" and "terrorism" were plucked from the talking points Rice used by officials from the Director of National Intelligence's office, according to a CNN report that's apparently been confirmed by other national media outlets.

Specifically, National Intelligence Director James Clapper's spokesman told CNN, "There were no substantive changes made to the talking points after they left the intelligence community."

In a statement from McCain's office, the senator describes his reaction as "somewhat surprised and frustrated," but doesn't quite concede his point:

"I am somewhat surprised and frustrated to read reports that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence was responsible for removing references to Al-Qaeda from the unclassified talking points about the Benghazi attack that Ambassador Susan Rice and other officials used in the early days after September 11, 2012. I participated in hours of hearings in the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence last week regarding the events in Benghazi, where senior intelligence officials were asked this very question, and all of them - including the Director of National Intelligence himself - told us that they did not know who made the changes. Now we have to read the answers to our questions in the media. There are many other questions that remain unanswered. But this latest episode is another reason why many of us are so frustrated with, and suspicious of, the actions of this Administration when it comes to the Benghazi attack."

We've sent an e-mail to McCain's spokesman, asking him to clarify whether McCain is accepting these reports, and if McCain's still blaming the White House. We'll provide the update if it comes along.

McCain's certainly correct in saying that "many other questions that remain unanswered," but it's not exactly clear where McCain's getting his information, either.

For example, just last week, CNN's Anderson Cooper floated this scenario, albeit without the details, that Rice was relying on talking points from the intelligence community.

McCain responded, "First of all, the talking points came from the White House, not the [Director of National Intelligence]."

McCain also reportedly missed a hearing on the attack, so it's not really clear who's acting the most suspicious at this point.

John McCain is just a bitter, vindictive senile old man.Anything that McCain says should totally ignored.  McCain has always been a blatant liar, hatemonger and warmonger. AZ should just recall the bitter old man

If I recall (and I do recall better than any of our politicians) our illustrious President said in his Last Debate... "On the very next day 9/12, I stood in the Rose Garden and said that the 9/11 attack that killed 4 of our people was a Terrorist attack."   If our illustrious President did NOT lie to us, then why did Susan Rice go on 5 programs telling that she was told that it was a spontaneous mob action.  Interesting question isn't it....

Let us also give thanks to god this Thanksgiving that we are not living under the tyranny of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan  in the next four years.

Amen.

It is time for John and Cindy to retire to one of Arizona's  gated, lilly white, retirement communities with his other geriatric, GOP peers. His POW back ground is commendable, and gave him the existential gift that he exploited in his career, but it does not give him carte blanche for partisan lying. His choices in the past for the most part have been dismal failures, from Sarah Pailin as a running mate, to his advice on the Iran and Iraq war.  I have absolutely no respect for this whore of a politician.

I am a 62 years old WASP male.

Only the fools among us would beleive that the Obama administration knew nothing  about the talking points being changed, thats the real American tragedy.

Today is Thanksgiving, and I am extremely thankful that John McCain was not elected president.

John McCain is acting like the old fool that he is and looking like he's become unhinged.  This attack is still under investigation and apparently he is unable to shut his mouth and let the investigation go where it will without his interference.   He has more to say about Rice's "talking point" than he does Rep Issa posting "sensitive" information on his website including names of those helping us.   Where is his outrage over that?

John must have forgotten how investigations go because he apparently has also forgotten his own investigation in the Iran-Contra Affair.  I doubt he would have appreciated some blow-hard on TV yelling about that.  It took ONE YEAR for the investigation into "weapons of mass destruction" and I didn't see John in a big hurry during that investigation either........or into 9-11.

Susan Rice can not see Russia from her home so I guess that makes her dumb?  John McCain.......who come out 4th from the bottom of his class of over 850 others at the Naval Academy?   Ya Right!

Commenters are only stating the obvious when they say that McCain's cognition is slipping. He really needs to seriously consider retiring from the Senate at the earliest opportunity. He's earned his place in the sun many times over. Anyone who knows anything about his seven years in captivity at the Hanoi Hilton can truly say, "there, but for the grace of (insert deity) go I." The time has come for him to chuck his responsibilities and play some golf, travel and enjoy life while he still can. His departure from the Senate would certainly give Richard Carmona a leg up on replacing him. So John, I realize that you'd call me or anyone else a jerk for saying this, but please consider hanging it up. You've earned a lifetime of R&R and then some, so take it. Please.

John McCain is the man who selected Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate for 2008. That choice demonstrates very poor cognitive skills on the part of McCain, who also facilitated federal land trades for the enrichment of real estate mogul Don Diamond and to the detriment of the United States. Those land swaps were heavily in favor of Don Diamond.  Now, McCain skips a hearing about the Libyan tragedy and blathers about President Obama without being fully informed.  This is more evidence that McCain's political career should end at the next election.

McCain appears to be struggling to stay relevant in an era where his importance has been overshadowed by up-and-comers.  He is a washed-up has=been of a Senator and is concerned that he will be passed over for the important committee assignments when the 113th Congress convenes in January.  Either that or he is just tilting at windmills in his old age.

this is just a ruse to keep Obama from appointing Rice as Sec of State, instead of opening up a Senate seat by him choosing John Kerry..also, McNasty is feeling lonely and desperate as his key allies either lost or are retiring (Lieberman), and his term is up as head of the Committee..

@suckmycock You are a friggin traitor to this country Sir - you should be ashamed.  You know damned well that our country's ambassador to the UN said what she said because she was told to in order to keep our country safe and catch the criminal terrorists who did the deed.  The information about whether it was a specific group which performed a terrorist act or a criminal mob was CLASSIFIED you dolt!  No, I'm not going to let you off that easy, it's not just that you're stupid that you don't realize that - you are a fugking traitor to your country - you know damned well THAT INFORMATION WAS CLASSIFIED and yet you're demanding someone be blamed.   Kiss my ass suckmycock!

 @RicardoSmall2

And how can we possibly forget his panic when he rushed to Washington during the banking crisis to walk up and down the halls for photo-ops and talking to reporters.  He attended no meetings and was not invited to any of them.  He just run his mouth and tried to look important just as he is now.

@RicardoSmall2 Should be over now, senile old coot! There was a time between Keating and Palin when he displayed glimmers of reasonableness, but that all went to hell. Just think he criticized Susan Rice for being unqualified, this from the one who picked Sarah Palin for vice. Please go to your house in Yavapai County and don't leave for the next four years, retire already.

@LegitQuestionsLQ, your comment is interesting and seems valid to me. I think the Senator, based on recent behaviors he has demonstrated, has officially 'lost it'. Like the local shurf, McCain needs to put himself out to pasture, enjoying his golden years with his golden wife. I'm afraid he may be trying to emulate some of the behavior of his daughter, the twit of twenty something. I've voted for him several times now and I've shaken his hand at a town hall meeting, but will never vote for him again. He seriously needs to get away from the D.C. crowd and the Airy Zona Republican crowd so he might have the opportunity to form his own thoughts and opinions again, before he crosses the finish line.

I hope Kerry turns down the job.  He is too valuable in the Senate and him leaving will put Scott Brown back in the running.   Kerry could be in a senate for several more years so why give it up for a 4-year job.

@amore  @godhatesdems Don't talk to these fugking idiots - they know that information was CLASSIFIED and disclosure of it would make our country less safe - they want our country to be attacked by terrorists and have them get away scott free.  They're tea party traitors!

@carolott43  Why, Carol? Because only a few senators ever get the chance to serve as Secretary of State... For most it's a once in a lifetime shot. I will be surprised if Kerry doesn't jump on it if the President doesn't nominate Ms. Rice.
