Joe Arpaio All-but-Declares Victory, and Immediately Declares 2016 Candidacy

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, wife Ava, and a cardboard Mitt Romney.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio apparently wants to remain Maricopa County Sheriff until he's dead, as he declared his candidacy for the 2016 race immediately after all-but-declaring victory over Democratic candidate Paul Penzone.

At the time of this post, more than 90 percent of the votes had been counted, and Arpaio's up  about 10 percentage points on Penzone. Mike Stauffer proved to be useless, as he pulled in about 4 percent and change.

"I'm not going to talk about my opponent, I don't do that," Arpaio said in his speech at the Arizona Republican Party election party at the Hyatt in downtown Phoenix.

Arpaio said it "hasn't been a tough race" against Penzone, and he added that he's signing up for the 2016 race once January comes around.

In what's either a show of cockiness or sheer confusion, Arpaio said everyone's going to "have to put up with me for another eight years."

Arpaio claimed that he does have emotions but said he would not display them in public.

Disappointing to know this egocentric maniac is still in office . . Maricopa county will still continue to pay financially for his mistakes . .

I am surprised you guys do not have an article going about is interview on News Channel 10 where he stated " He wants to get closer to the Latino people". I myself could not stop laughing and the poor news people were struggling for words on how to describe his statement.

He presumes he'll still be alive to run. At his age and in the shape he's obviously in that is quite presumptuous.

Look who's on the stage in the picture!  Ava Arpaio, a cardboard cutout, and a picture of Mitt Romney....

You see none of you wanted to believe that Joe would win, but he did so YES!!!!!!  Now it is Adios Penzone.  Screw all you Arpaio haters... screw you Stephen Lemons, tough!!!! Now all you shut up and deal with it.

He wants to die in office, so he won't be around when the next Sheriff who's not a cronie does a full accounting and audit.  You can't go to prison if you're already dead.

He does his job?!?! LOL!!!!!!! I could do a better job as Sheriff and I know nothing about the judicial system! I'm a preschool teacher!

We already knew he wasn't going to actually do his job so starting his re-election campaign gives him something to do.

Because it's not cool to say you're a racist anymore so people don't say they're voting for him. There's no other explanation because as far as doing his job and making Maricopa County safer, that's not happening. Saving money for the taxpayers? No. Bringing the people of the county together and fostering a safe environment? No.

How. I mean, I never hear someone say they are voting for him?? This is fucking lame I guess we're stuck with him until he kicks the bucket.

Oneprays for him to die in office soon, in pain and alone asap! He is nothing but a worthless loaf of shit, a mistake of god and the shame of Arizona.  If the bastard hadn't had 7 million he'd be out of office and executed by now, karma is a bitch!

Is it wrong to hope that his LIpator and Nitroglycerin pills are really placebo? Will be happy when he's out of office. AZ needs progress

He's the clown in the circus who thinks he's a lion tamer. Apparently most Arizonans don't know the difference either.

What about the provisional ballots? I have been watching the election coverage all night and numbers between 100,000 and 400,000 have been attached to the amount of provisional ballots that apparently won't be counted tonight. The last count I saw had Arpaio ahead with only 90,000 votes. Is it possible still for him to lose once all those provisional are finally counted? Are all the early ballots already counted as well?

Just trying to have hope that maybe, just maybe, Joe isn't actually our sheriff for four more years of corruption just yet...

Woohoo!! This article sucks! What'd it take, two minutes to write?? I love how it's suuuuuper biased, but it totally still gets away with it because its a "blog". Go Joe.

Matt, does PNT plan on contacting Frank Camacho or TV3 for some type of clarification on the complaint that Camacho made on TV3 about voters on the West side ,even though in line by 7:00 pm,having the doors locked on them and not being allowed to vote ? Camacho said this happened  at least at 3 polling places and could involve thousands of votes.

No, it wasn't "tough" for Joe, just like everything else....he didn't foot the bill and only had to sucker his sheep for $7,000,0000 to get re-elected sheriff.  What's he going to need in 2014, $15M?

@JoeArpaioFan Joke getting elected again just shows how clueless and uneducated the voters are here in Maricopa County.  And you are the village idiot, Mike!

@Hock Very good point.  I wonder if the Board of Supervisors will ever do an audit of the sheriff's office?

@r.rowley.tucson I wonder how the concept of karma addresses someone who wishes pain on another.  My presumption is not good.  I personally hope that Mr. Arpaio lives a long and pain-free life after deciding to pursue his as yet uknown hobby of ornamental gardening after retiring from his position of sheriff.

@AfRiKaJoNeS the amount  he was ahead by and how many mail in etc. ballots there are......joe will still unfortunately still have it. penzone would have to pull almost all of the provisional ballots. i was against joe the whole time, but had pretty much known he would still pull it. he was ahead by 10% and can say it wasnt tough at all, but it WAS his closest race by far. his other races he was ahead by a minimum of 30%, so penzone did pose a bigger threat than he has had before.  it looks like Joe will still have time to cost us over a billion dollars unfortunately.

@jasonxoc That's what we said in our house. We thought he was close to them that's why he keeps arresting them and profiling Latinos.

Sigh.  I figured as much but I was just trying to have a little bit of hope.

I just don't understand how people can continue to vote for this guy, I really don't.

Inspiration plus perspiration can defeat most challenges in life.  Whether a given person has enough perspiration and inspiration to prevent Joe Arpaio and his legally and socially approved means to arrest, imprison and evict peaceful immigrant gardeners, tamale makers and marijuana users is up to any given person to decide.

@AfRiKaJoNeS there is a lot of talk about the provisionals, but i wouldnt count on it
