Harry Reid Barks at the Moon, Asks Arizona Officials to Count Votes Quickly and Accurately

Attention elections officials across the state: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is asking that you all count the votes "promptly, accurately and equally."

We weren't aware that everyone was just lollygagging and kind of just eyeballing the amount of votes for any given candidate, but now that the top Democrat in Congress is involved, we're sure this matter will be resolved immediately.

For some reason, Reid released a statement on the uncounted votes in Arizona -- more than 342,000 at last check -- and appears to be joining people who find the uncounted-ballot situation in Maricopa County, and across the state, a bit fishy.

Here's Reid's statement:

"All of the votes in Arizona must be counted promptly, accurately and equally. The uncounted votes in Maricopa County alone represent a major portion of the total votes cast in Arizona on Tuesday.

"In light of the Supreme Court's decision to hear challenges to the Voting Rights Act, we are reminded that the right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. That right is not secure when some votes are counted while others are suppressed or ignored. I expect state and local officials in Arizona to ensure that every vote is counted promptly, accurately and equally."

Reid's reference to the challenges to the Voting Rights Act are related to the Justice Department's needing to approve states' changes to voting procedures.

Just yesterday, Maricopa County elections spokeswoman Yvonne Reed told our colleague Stephen Lemons that the DoJ approved the moves that appear to have caused the messy situation.

As Lemons noted, redistricting -- causing some people to show up at the wrong polling locations -- and consolidation of the number of polling locations are probably causing the rise in the number of provisional ballots being cast.

The county still has to tabulate about 122,000 provisional ballots.

Although some have cried conspiracy -- that Democrat voters were being put through all the hoops to vote, or their votes weren't being counted immediately for a reason -- the theories haven't really panned out. The ballots counted in recent days haven't really changed the leads in the hotly contested races.

Just for the record, I am a registered Dem and have been voting since the 70s and, in this state for twelve years now.  tuesday was in fact the first time I have ever been "put through the hoops" so to speak.

It was obvious  and I don't understand how it can happen, it is just not right.

How can you SERIOUSLY even say such dismissive things? Not only Harry Reid, but the eyes of ALL Americans who are interested in seeing that ALL Americans' right to vote is sacred, and no minority groups are targeted for disenfranchisement and voter suppression are watching you now, to see what you will do, and what the outcome will be of this TRAVESTY in Arizona. We know that fully 25% of Arizona's TOTAL votes have YET to be counted! We KNOW about the hundreds of thousands of uncounted early and other votes in Maricopa county, and elsewhere. We KNOW that Arpaio and Flake DECLARED themselves the winners, knowing full well that the votes were not counted, and they might very well lose, if they were. We know that tens of thousands of Hispanic voters were forced onto provisional ballots under questionable circumstances, and the burden is on them to appear at the Court House to justify their right to vote, with documentation. We KNOW that Arizona is the new Florida and Ohio, the election is over a week past, and you all are looking lijke a banana republic out there. I wouldn't be so glib and dismissive about THAT! I have heard the numbers still to be counted are in the 500,000 range, and over 150,000 Hispanices were forced onto provisional ballots. SHAME, Arizona, SHAME!!!

70% of the elderly who reside in az are red not blue and IF the state gets its secession it won't really matter because az will be permanately stuck in the 1800s. Full of racism and bigotry. They already have 10000 of the 25000 needed. Get ready to turn back in time folks cause its going to be a bumpy ride. Just wait and see

Finally ! where is the Federal Government on this ? it's so obviously fraudulent and it'll give them a chance to confront Brewer and friends before they get their heads together and start conspiring on issues like Obamacare, Secession and challenging the State Constiution for her imaginary 3rd term as Governor. AZ wil turn blue just watch and see.

Don't worry - the Obama administration has said that it will look at any issue that gets 25,000 signatures but hasn't promised to actually act on it.  The administration isn't going to act on this or any of the other petition to secede - that type of action would have to originate in Congress.
