Does Anyone Care About Kyrsten Sinema's Client List?

Categories: Morning Poll

Democratic congressional candidate Kyrsten Sinema
Democratic congressional candidate Kyrsten Sinema purportedly described herself as a "criminal defense attorney who represents murderers" a few years ago, and that's apparently caused some controversy.

That comment sparked supporters of her Republican opponent, Vernon Parker, to start demanding Sinema's client list, including the names of any "murderers."

"In light of your pronouncements of support for murderers I ask you to immediately release your entire client list of any murderers you have represented or currently represent," Arizona Republican Party Chairman Tom Morrissey wrote in an open letter to Sinema.

In a part-demand, part-campaign-fodder statement, even the county's top prosecutor got in on the matter last week.

"Democrat Kyrsten Sinema claims to have made a career out of protecting criminals. She shouldn't hide who she has defended now just because she is running for office," Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said. "Arizona families deserve to know the whole truth so why is Sinema keeping who she claims to have defended a secret. Vernon Parker has the support of national victims rights groups because he is committed to protecting law-abiding citizens. I look forward to working with him when he gets to Congress."

This morning's question: Does anyone actually care about Sinema's client list?

Kyrsten thinks she is in California...  This wack job is scary that's for sure...

Bill Montgomery's comments are politcal hyperbole. He knows that attorney-client privilege prohibits any attorney from discussing a client's affairs (which includes their name) unless the client consents to such disclosure.

Q. Is her client list the kind of information that belongs in the public domain or is it supposed to be confidential?

I don't do demands but it doesn't seem very hard for Simema to either disclose some client names or disclaim that she stated that she has represented murderers.

@bdickus2001 Uh-huh. Just as I thought. So, what was he thinking when he made that demand? Did he honestly believe that she would release the information? He needs a refresher course on The Law.

@eric.nelson745 Attorney-client privilege is clear, an attorney cannot divulge information about any client, even the fact they provide(d) services to that client, without theclient's permission.

@Thane.Eichenauer Here's more proof she ain't a practicing attorney. She missed these votes.

I can't say whether those are good ideas or terrible threats. Everything depends on the way the law in Arizona works. Only practicing attorneys in Arizona can really say that. .The only law I know something about (& then only a very small part) is homicide law in Texas, & they both look OK from that perspective. You can bet your sweet behind that every responsible legislator asked a judge he or she knew before casting their vote. By contrast, every single practicing attorney in Arizona who was also a legislator had every responsibility to be in on the ground floor with these things.  The most likely reason she did not work on these vital laws, pro or con, is because she would then have demonstrated her ignorance of the way the law really works.

@Thane.Eichenauer That is a vital issue. Check Maricopa Superior Court's Docket. http://www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/docket/

Type "attorney" Kyrsten Sinema's name in the upper right box:

Repeatedly asking for evidence Ms. Sinema practiced law yielded not a scintilla of proof.  Court cases, can be provided without problems related to confidentiality.  Ms. Sinema's false claims dishonor those who ensure the accused are provisioned their rights in a court of law. Protecting those rights is the best protection we have against dictatorship. Lies about employment are always grounds for firing. Why vote for one you would not hire to be your security guard?

@Thane.Eichenauer This is actually quite fascinating. I think I'll do it by heavens.  The first thing to do is to start a facebook page "recall Sinema."

@mitchellwachtel Russell Pearce was recalled with no allegations of any crimes or misdemeanors.

I admit that any elected official is going have either valid defenses or invalid excuses.  In my opinion until someone has filed an official recall none of your assertions are likely to travel much further than the comments of this Phoenix New Times web page article.  Waiting until she "really begins to blow it" is IMO bad reasoning.  Either she is bad now or she isn't.I am offering advise based on what reads in my eyes to be a very passionate and pretty reasonable claim on your part.

@Thane.Eichenauer Now criminal arrogance is such that she likely will eventually get booted. So the best thing to do is to monitor her & whack her when she really begins to blow it.

Prove me wrong; show me one example of an official's being successfully recalled on the basis simply of having more than double the offenses against the law than any of his or her colleagues. All she would have to do is pull out her racism. She would simply state that, having permitted a Black man like that Representative Hastings in Florida to be a member of the House, it would ill serve White people to have a higher standard.

@Thane.Eichenauer  As long as she is restricted to making inane speeches, there is not the slightest problem.  James Traficant (JT) is a dead ringer for Kyrsten Sinema (KS) apart from  the sex. Look at this video to see that JT also has trouble with honesty as respects hair. More important, JT is in the saddle of the same high moral horse Kyrsten Sinema  mounts.  Here JT rides off into the sunset.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ5Os1400uc

@Thane.Eichenauer I'm out of the state & so lack standing to file such a petition. Also, the violations themselves are minor matters, assuredly not the high crimes & misdemeanors that would be required for anyone to take such action.  The main thing is that with fifteen interactions with law enforcement since 2005, you cannot be permitted to be on a committee like the judiciary committee.

@sfgiant5  @Thane.Eichenauer The chief thing to remember is that her major legislative goal is likely the release of Sheik Rahman to Egypt. Any time a Congressional Representative has such a goal, they can do great damage to our country to achieve it.  A good example is the tobacco legislators, principally from North Carolina.

Thane.Eichenauer

You will need to wait 6 months for her to be eligible for recall.

@sfgiant5  @Thane.Eichenauer It is relevant because she should not be permitted to serve on the House Judiciary committee, which seems to be her choice for some odd reason.    She's already on the take of the private prison industry despite her protestations that she is a defense attorney. She never practiced law despite her claiming to do so. She has violated the law so many times since 2005 that any notion of her actually having respect for the law can only be held after consumption of four margaritas. She is grossly incompetent when it comes to the niceties of law, such that she voted for a proposal she did not understand.  Instead of accepting blame for her mistake, she said "I did not vote for s**t." Moreover, she missed two vital votes that required a lawyer's skill, very likely because she knew her input would draw attention to her gross incompetence. Such a person must never be placed in a position to affect Federal criminal law. What must be done is to suggest appropriate committee assignments, where she has proven skills. Ideal is the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. The left honourable doctor Sinema had a grandfather who was in WWII & has two brothers in the army, no amount of bribery will prevent her from ensuring that her family is protected.  Another fabulous choice is the House Committee on Homeland Security.  By heavens, that's one committee few would miss, so her incompetence might really serve America's best interests. A perfect committee is the House Committee on House Administration. The main thing that committee does is produce resolutions.  Her extensive experience in the production of such things as a slapdash anti death penalty bill with zero chances of passage make her ideal.
