Arizona No Longer Ranked Third Worst-Run State in the U.S. -- Now It's Just Fourth-Worst

Arizona's economy is really shaping up, based on an independent ranking of the 50 states' financial situations -- the Grand Canyon State is now the 47th best out of the 50 states, which is an improvement over the previous ranking of 48th.

The financial-news website 24/7 Wall St. has been doing these rankings for a few years now, and takes into account a state's debt, budget deficit, unemployment, household income, and the amount of residents in poverty.

-Under Jan Brewer's Fearless Leadership, Arizona Not Ranked Worst-Run State in Country -- Just Third Worst

"To determine how well the states are run, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed hundreds of data sets from dozens of sources. We looked at each state's debt, revenue, expenditure and deficit to determine how well it is managed fiscally," the authors explain. "We reviewed taxes, exports, and GDP growth, including a breakdown by sector, to identify how each state is managing its resources. We looked at poverty, income, unemployment, high school graduation, violent crime and foreclosure rates to measure if residents are prospering."

In general, that's a list of areas where Arizona's not doing too well.

Here are the stats:

  • Debt per capita: $2,188 (12th lowest)
  • Budget deficit: 39.0% (3rd largest)
  • Unemployment: 9.5% (tied-13th highest)
  • Median household income: $46,709 (21st lowest)
  • Pct. below poverty line: 19.0% (tied-8th highest)

Arizona also placed second in the nation in the decline of home prices (35 percent decline from 2006 to 2011), and second in the nation in the rate of foreclosures last year.

Forget all that, though, Arizona's climbing these rankings!

California was ranked as the absolute worst, and mostly rural states were among the top five.

I guess JAP WAS born yesterday.  Arizona, home of the world's first food bank for a reason.  Can't blame it all on Jan, Jan, Jane, the littlest piccolo, the one that looked like the backside of the Miles Davis album, or any of the good ole boys prior - they are just figureheads . . .

I've tried twice to post this, and my apologies if it is coming up multiple times, but I'm not seeing it.   In reply to JoeAripaioFan and his comment regarding the Republicans being the solution, not the problem.

Perhaps someday you may understand how wrong you are on so many things. Your indignation is hollow in its arrogance. Your penchant to blame all ills on the Democrats, on the Progressives, on the Liberals, is well documented. However, it is also fundamentally flawed. Whether you wish to believe it or not, it is the Republicans who are to blame for many of the ills in society, not only in the political arena of the U.S., but particularly so in this state. Stop being a black heart. People may actually respect you then, or at the very least give validity to your opinion, which is something you are not getting right now.

Funny that it seems that just the Democrats think Arizona is a poorly ran state because they cannot get their way. Actually Arizona is one of the best run states in the nation. If Democrats had their way  you could call Arizona poorly managed.

Arpaio and Brewer are trying to singlehandedly get us to #1 (unfortunately, its going to be #1 on the list of worst)

@JoeArpaioFan Go take a hike to Wall Street in NYC. Tell the experts that they are wrong. Tell them you are a big fan of the 80 year old Flaccid Failure. Tell them how much you love the finger-wagging buffoonish drunkard, who btw, had just approved---OBAMACARE.

Hahahahaha.....

@shadeaux14 Excuse me but aren't you the pot calling the kettle black!  Actually blame the Democrats not Republicans. How dare you blame the people who are the solution not the problem.

we were rated 4th worst, we used to be 3rd but we have moved upward one spot to the positive. but we are still high on the negative list. nobody is worse than cali, i just was curious as to what you are saying we are one of the best for. if it is solely based on cali, then every state is doing great. but i wanted to know where you are getting we are one of the best, not if we are better than cali. if you were to use that criteria, then the illegals are not illegal because they are not in jail. they are still illegals JAF, they are just not in jail. that would be saying illinois is one of the best run because it is better than cali. there are 50 states the bottom 6 would be the worst, the top 6 would be the best and we are nowhere near the top 6, but have landed in the bottom 6. so are we the worst? no, we arent, and according to the list we have improved, but we have not improved enough to be considered in the best run states

@danzigsdaddyCompared to California, Arizona is a well run state. Where do you get your information that it is not?

@JoeArpaioFan JAF, i am going to be civil and not insulting here. you have been watching your step around me and been respectful, so i will act the same. i do have a question for you though, where are you getting your info that Az is one of the best run, or what are you basing this on? the info that is being refered to here is from multiple news sources and agencies that have established credentials. so all i am asking is what are you basing your statement on? is it off of a report, or a personal belief? if it is off of your personal belief, i am curious as to why you feel that way. by your own admission we have serious immigration problems (and i am not contesting that, because we do), also by your own admission we have way too many lawsuits against the state, county, and sheriff that run us into the hundreds of millions (i am not arguing the validity of these cases, i am just saying there are way too many of them)
