Senators John McCain, Jon Kyl Upset Their Praise for Senate Candidate Richard Carmona Surfaced in Campaign Ad A Decade Later

Categories: Election 2012

Let's say that Senator Jon Kyl (left) is giving Senator John McCain a noogie for letting him say nice things about Carmona.
The campaign ads are showing no signs of slowing in the heated race for Arizona's U.S. Senate seat.

Congressman Jeff Flake, who is endorsed by Arizona Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl, has been making every effort to paint his opponent, Rich Carmona, as a handpicked candidate who will rubber stamp President Barack Obama's policies.

Carmona flipped that notion on its head with his latest campaign ad starting the state's almost native sons -- John and Jon -- who offer glowing endorsements of Carmona.

Of course, the lawmakers are crying foul, saying that Carmona is twisting their words -- only they're on video all but singing his praises when he was appointed by President George Bush as U.S. Surgeon General in 2002.

The ad screams out that Carmona is an Independent at heart, and has (or had) Republican friends.

In a statement the duo released, posted on a GOP blog, they blast Carmona for what they call a "deeply dishonest" ad, and for implying he has the senators' support.

It might be subtle, but the 30-second spot does note various times that the senators are speaking about Carmona's confirmation for U.S. Surgeon General.

And, when McCain says that Carmona's "inspiring story is the living embodiment of the American dream" -- well, Carmona's story hasn't changed. So McCain's word hold true, even a decade later.

He also says, in the ad, that Carmona is one of the most decorated policemen in Arizona. That also hasn't changed.

Carmona is that same guy who saved lives in Vietnam and as a surgeon, risked his life as a Green Beret and as a deputy for the Pima County Sheriff's Office, fatally shot a man who was trying to kill him and took a bullet in the leg from a man who was trying to kill himself.

Sure, the "johns" are probably sour that Carmona didn't join their team and run for political office under the Republican banner.

If he had, you can be sure they would be enthusiastically endorsing Carmona -- and using the same words they did when they made a clear case to their fellow U.S. Senators why Carmona was the right person to appoint as the nation's doctor.

Now Mc Cain, and Kyle have run an "Attack Comercial"  to rebute their earlier praise of Rich Carmona, they say: " Their praise was before they found out that Carmona has no character, and that his ads are dishonest."

Mc Cain, and Kyle didn't have either the "Character, or Honesty" to tell the real reason for their "Flip Flop" against Carmona.

Truth: Carmona changed Parties to Democrat pure and simple!

If Carmona were still a Republican Mc Cain, and Kyle would still kiss the ground Carmona walks on!

If they had issues with Carmona's "Character, why were they silent until he changed parties, and is running against the Republicans?

Mc Cain, and Kyle "Have No Character."

The Republicans by saying Richard Carmona will be Obama's "Rubber Stamp" are admitting that their Presidential Candidate Nitt Mitt Romney will be Defeated next month.

Mc Cain, Kyle and Flake have flip flopped so much over the last ten years they can't even remember which side of the fish bowl they last flopped from!

Ill bet Mc Cain and Kyle would love to get rid of the video of them telling the "Truth" about Dr. Carmona.

Honesty, or Truth is a Career Politicians worst nightmare.

Arizona finally has a chance to begin to gain a modicum of respect with a genuine man of character and integrity in Dr. Carmona, who would make a great Senator and turn a new leaf for the state of Arizona.

Interestingly enough, a couple of the very conservative posters over on Sonoran Alliance are posting vehement support for Carmona over Flake.  The basis of their argument is that Carmona is who Carmona is and has never reprseneted himself as anything else, while Flake, on the other hand, has flip-flopped, been deceptive and lied; therefore Carmona's character outweighs Flake's party affiliation.

We have a few VERY interesting races that will be decided next week.

The old man is almost senile and his words on Bengazi seal it. John, just shut up, before you make yourself a bigger fool than Arpaio. Kyl has been just a shill for years, useless to Arizona.

What an excellent line of posts. Unfortunately, I happened onto it a little late. But, alas, how sweet it is !!! These two stooges get a spanking with their own words!! What in the world is "deeply dishonest" about this ad ?  To see these two truly dishonest dimwits embarrass themselves, boy, how sweet it is !  The way they have tried and are still trying to tarnish Richard Carmona is an outright disgrace for them and the State they represent ! Richard Carmona is a man with an exceptionally sharp intellect, honesty and integrity ! At long last the State of Arizona has a real chance to have a Senator in Washington who will truly represent the State with honor !!

Btw, where is this JAF ??!!

Interesting. When Dr. Carmona was still an Independent he was considered a 'champion' by the two senators from Arizona. Now that he's a (shhhhh... we must be quiet with this one) Democrat, he suddenly is less of a champion than Mr. Flake. As a decorated combat veteran, myself, and a decorated retired law enforcement professional, I like the character of Dr. Carmona over Mr. Flake, whose foreign experience at this time seems to be tied to a virtual reality experience on a lush tropical island.

I believe Dr. Carmona will be the next U.S. Senator for Arizona.

And, I've always liked Jeff Flake.

This new ad all but seals Carmona's victory for Senate. Kyl and McCain can't possibly explain this one away.

Buh-bye Jon. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

it's Time that Arizona gets a Senator for the people and not the free "booze" tax for his wife's company.

Good for Carmona on this one!  If only Obama would use the statements made by others in the GOP primary about Romney.

Maybe Flake can get a job as Russ Pearce's poolboy in Nov!

Good Comment.

With Flake they are the "Three Stooges".

@WhoKnows Pearce is broke after Sal Reza nailed his ass to the wall in his lawsuit against Pearce (in his individual capacity) for booting him out of the State Senate building.

Pearce couldn't even afford a pair of Depends. And he's currently shitting in the pair he's wearing now.

Has that unlawful arrest lawsuit been settled? I've not read about it, if so. Do you know if the lawsuit is asking for punitive damages? If so, Pearce would have to pay out of pocket for any damages due to an intentional tort. If not, the state pays all damages, once again. But, it could be said the state (aka voters) deserve such penalties for having elected this yojo in the first place.

@HaddieNuff  The OP was granted because the plaintiff is alleging in the lawsuit that Pearce has Neo-Nazi ties. Apparently J.T. Ready was a member of a Neo_Nazi organization (do ya think?) and the relationship between Pearce and Ready was going to be 'explored' during deposition. However, it seems the judge didn't recognize a relevance for this relationship to the question of the lawsuit, which alleges unlawful arrest and unlawful imprisonment. I think it will be interesting if this goes to trial and we see how Pearce simply makes his own rules and simplly ignores written laws he doesn't like, such as any person taking a loaded weapon into the Senate building. From an amateur perspective I believe there is ample proof to show that Pearce committed an intentional tort in this case. I am expecting there will be punitive damages awarded. However, with the age of both the defendant and plaintiff considered the case may be in appeal past both of their passing.

disclaimer: Not a lawyer, just an amateur observer. My opinions posted here may have no relevance and will likely be incorrect at some level.

That Order of Protection is interesting.  And the question if not only how did he get it, but WHY?  Seems obvious there's something there that would be damaging should it come out.

Eleanor_Holguin

@Tommy_Collins  Not that Pearce had anything to do with ruining his own reputation.

How did he get granted an Order of Protection like that? Who did he blow?

 @MaskedMagician1967  @WhoKnows

I researched the lawsuit. It's still active. The two nitwits from DPS have been dropped as defendants. Pearce is the only active defendant. Interestingly he requested, and was granted, an Order of Protection that says his relationship with J.T. Ready cannot be questioned during deposition. Pearce says Reza is trying to ruin his reputation and eligibility for a run for state senate. Oh, and yes, punitive damages are being sought, to be determined during trial.
