Light Rail Ninja Goes by the Name "Kairo"

Kairo, the light-rail ninja.
The man who broke up a fight on the Metro Light Rail using a samurai sword a few weeks ago goes by the name "Kairo."

It's not his real name -- at least, not the name that government entities would refer to him by -- but he is a 26-year-old Phoenix resident.

"Despite all comments I've received from people out here I do still carry My Katana Inoau-rei," Kairo writes on his Facebook page.

Neither Kairo nor someone claiming to be his brother responded to social-media messages.

However, the person claiming to be his brother did upload videos of Kairo on YouTube -- whose real name is apparently Kenneth -- including the one below, of Kairo going to pick out a new sword:

All the videos uploaded by the person claiming to be Kairo's brother can be found here.

Based on the last names of his family members, and a matching date of birth, it appears that Kairo's name is Kenneth Jacintho. If that's him, an assault charge against him from Phoenix police was dropped in late 2010, although two people took out orders of protection against him earlier that year.

A dating profile set up by Kairo kind of, sort of, explains the naming issue:

Despite all comments I've received from people out here I do still carry My Katana Inoau-rei. I was raised into it by my Master Hiko and I adopted him as my Father figure since he practically raised 14 years of my life anyway and named me Kairo so I took up his last name Seijuro for honorific reasons...that and it suites my character better..Sorry most people ask.

Phoenix police are investigating the incident that involved Kairo pulling out the sword on the light rail, although Phoenix police Sergeant Steve Martos told New Times, "It appears the individual with the sword helped to stop the fight."

Hey look more investigative reporting, only this time it's rather pointless. Nonetheless keep up the good work because this type of worthless reporting shows just how superb a job the New Times does at investigating the real important stuff.

seems like a more even headed way to deal with it than pulling out the heat.

Uh. So. A rather obviously unstable dude with shitty English skills goes samurai on the light rail. But it's okay. He was breaking up a fight. Thanks Phoenix PD. As always, you help me feel more secure.

Somebody better tell "Kairo" this is a state full of people carrying concealed firearms before he gets his fool head blown off.  He would be wise to pay heed to the old saying: "don't bring a knife to a gunfight"

@opinionator So what would you had done? Don't tell me, because I know the answer:......nada.

@opinionator Fuck you, dickhead. Because of this guy, two brothas who were beating the shit out of another brotha were forced off the train. End of fight.

@UnderwearEyes I think I actually like the Light Rail Wizard the best. Cake Lady is more of a villain but her contributions should be noted.

@davelog That's exactly what I was thinking. After this ninja guy rid the night rail of thugs.

@opinionator Sorry you don't want to live in a world like that, but I much prefer it to gun-wielding, trigger-happy officers, especially when they can't be bothered to arrive or rarely show up in a timely manor. It's not like the MCSO doesn't have a long history of assault and violence up their sleeve, even when they do something right.

If you're ever in an altercation on public transport, let me know how you fare waiting for Sheriff Joe's knuckleheads to arrive. As for me, I'd rather have a form of self-defense. Admittedly, I don't carry any weapons, so I would hope someone would stand up for me if I was attacked.

@fireserphent the guy NT claims is our Ninja has an assault charge (admittedly, dropped) and orders of protection from two people. We live under the rule of law. We don't live in a society built on roaming vigilantes any more. It's cool he stopped the fight. Bravo. I don't want to live in a society or culture where public safety is determined by sword wielding self-styled ninjas, however.

@opinionator OK, so is your suggestion for the Light Rail Samurai to just sit back, call the cops and wait for them to show up? I don't think so. They would have taken at least 15 minutes, if they even showed up at all (I'm guessing they wouldn't have) and that's not even considering how they'd find and follow the light rail. By that time the idiot who was getting beat up could have been even more severely hurt. But that didn't happen because a guy defended him. It is perfectly legal for him to carry a knife, a sword, even a gun and the way the Samurai handled himself was appropriate and solved the problem.

I don't think the PD should even be investigating this bullshit. Before the video was posted, this wasn't even on their radar. Hopefully, they just ask the guy a few questions and leave him alone, because he did something rather heroic and SAVED someone, not hurt someone. But New Times is going to make it hard for the Samurai if they publish his name...

@UnderwearEyes Oh man, I don't know the Professor but I'm wondering if he became Light Rail Wizard (who wears a helmet).

@UnderwearEyes Hm. Not sure. All I know is that if you publicize a PHX event as having free food (esp. cake), she will be there.
