Did the research myself because I was curious. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at these files and it looked like there may be duplicate files with the same expenses, but it looks to me like in September the Arpaio campaign spent $25k at channel 12, $125k at channel 5, $40k at channel 10 and $0 at channel 15. This doesn't include spending on cable channels and other smaller channels like channel 45. This suggests that he spent $190k in September at the major stations.

I'm no Arpaio fan - not by any stretch. I applaud the work that the New Times has done in exposing his corruption. But to put this story out there and suggest that it shows corruption without reviewing the easily accessible FCC public file for corresponding expenditures is lazy reporting. Please - if there is corruption and abuse report it and report it vigorously. And we all believe that there is corruption and abuse (except JAF and his "cousin" and YPS). But don't be the boy that cried wolf by suggesting that there is corruption when it is easy for the other side to prove otherwise. That doesn't do any of us any good.

@yourproductsucks It does not give me pause at all. I don't post for approval or validation. I do not post as an alliance (that pesky word again) with anyone else - I've disagreed with almost all of the regular commentators on this site once or twice (or more). If you think that this is your divide and conqure moment you think wrong because, quite frankly, there is no group to divide me from.

I call it like I see it, like when I tell you that you appear to be an Arpaio supporter and not a critic (of course I welcome you to prove me wrong) and tell you that your effort here is horribly transparent and sophmoric.

@LegitQuestions I'm disappointed that you think I am Pro Arpaio. I think you are one of the very few intelligent posters that frequent this blog. I'm curious to know what it is that allowed you to come to such conclusion. Was it something I said or was it the negative campaign that many on this blog barrage me with?

Otherwise I am in complete agreement with your position. It is exactly what I've attempted to convey on numerous occasions. This is not the first story to be published here that is weak and meaningless.

I once worked at a law firm which I saw the documents New Times is looking for. I was shocked - over 10 million was invested in properties in the State and out of State, including HONDURUAS!

Has anyone actually gone by this 'campaign office' and made sure it actually is being used as such and is not just a closet being rented in his wifes office space so they can pay rent out one side and collect it on the other?

honest question - I myself have not been by there but it seems to me to be a valid question, is the space actually a 'campaign office'?

@Flyer9753 would you want to physically check it? there is no way i would even want to be within 5 miles of it. you'd be able to feel the taint of corruption radiating out from it for miles. i'd feel filthy just walking past it........hell, i feel vile even mentioning it now.....thanks alot, now i have a repulsive feeling i wont be able to scrub off with a wire brush.

As much as I hate to say this, I don't really see much smoke or fire in what has been reported here.

For all of the TV commercials that his campaign has produced and all of the airtime he has pruchased, this does not seem to be an excessive amount. He has had to purchase a ton of TV time to reform his slimy image so it doesn't surprise me that he has spent a bunch of money on media. And a total of $1.5m over 9 1/2 months - out of line for this race relative to his challengers maybe but not out of line in general.

As for paying Ava Investments for rent - he needs to do this. The problem for him will be if he has been using that space on a consistent basis and has not paid rent until now. Then there may be the issue of an illegal campaign contribution. And $1,200/month for office space - not excessive either.

If Joe were skimming money, I'd expect all of these numbers to be much higher.

It would be interesting if New Times completed the reporting on this by reviewing the publiic files for the TV stations in metro Phoenix to determine the actual amount spent on TV time by Arpaio's campaign. Those files should be available on line and easy to access. Those numbers would put context around the numbers reported in Arpaio's campaign financing statements. A big disparity between TV time spending and the campaign finance reports, however, could begin to generate some smoke.

I just love how he's so shredder happy with evidence that he couldnt even consider NOT shredding the fabricated evidence he was relying on to try to save his own ass.
