Jesse Miller's 1-year-old daughter was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital yesterday, as Miller explained to a nurse that he "just beat the shit out of [his] baby."

According to court documents obtained by New Times, Miller's explanation was that he smoked the synthetic chemicals known as "spice," which caused his soul to leave his body, while he went to hell and beat his daughter.

Miller called 9-1-1 from his Phoenix home yesterday morning, reporting, "I just beat up my daughter," the documents state.

Police went over to his house, but in the meantime, the baby's mother picked up the baby and Miller, and took them to PCH.

At the hospital, Miller told a nurse, "I know I just beat the shit out of [my] baby," according to the court documents.

The baby had bruises on her face, dried blood in her nose, swollen lips, and was soaking wet, medical staff told police. She's currently in the intensive-care unit at the hospital, with bleeding on her brain, according to court documents. She's in stable, but critical condition.

According to the documents, the baby's mother told police that Miller called her while she was at work, and informed her that he'd just smoked spice and beat up their daughter.

Indeed, Miller told police that he was smoking spice in the bathroom while he left the baby in front of a TV, and after he was done smoking, he sat down on the couch with the baby and went "out of it."

"Out of it" included the belief that "his soul left his body and he went to hell," a probable-cause statement explains.

Miller said that when he "came to," he noticed that the baby was screaming and bleeding from the mouth.

Miller added that there's no way his baby could've done this to herself, so he must have done it to her, according to the documents. Police confirmed Miller was the only one in the residence.

Miller's facing one count of child abuse, and is being held on $45,000 bond.

@someguy111 the pot days are WAY LONG gone for me, but its all the chemicals on the spice that do it to them, it also has long term affects

@danzigsdaddy My neighbor had a friend wigging out(they are yound around 20 years old). They told me that he smoked spice and took a synthetic extascy pill. I have never seen someone wig out like this young person would. Told his friends to take him to the ER. He would have died if they didnt and the hospital had to actually put this person into a induced coma. Thats my experience on know this stuff is horrible.

Danzigsdaddy- thank you ! I am serious & I am concerned about my teenager- I'm a single mom & I work in an er- I see kids coming in overdosed or crazy but the EMS will say oh that is bath salts or kush or k2 or spice. I'm just so confused bc all the names! I found smoking dragon incense in his room- he said it is just incense- I threw it away but had no proof or clue what it was--- now I do! Thank you very much!!

@TufRlaws4predators if you go to a smoke shop, you can see it. if you buy a little bit (it is legal) go out back of your house and just burn a little of it (dont smoke it) and then you will even know the smell of it in case you ever have suspicions. it has a very distinct odor like pot does, so if you are not a smoker (ciggarettes) you will know it a mile away

@TufRlaws4predators if you had a sordid past like many of us may have, you would know what pot looks like in its buds, spice and most of the others will look very similar to it

@danzigsdaddy @TufRlaws4predators I appreciate you taking the time for me-- I guess as time goes by I get more & more out of loop( I'm a mom who drank wine coolers in 2 liters back in the day & we thought we were cool)! I felt stupid asking but I'm glad I did because I'm pretty sure someone is gonna get an a$$ whippin!!!!!!!!

I don't understand ... Is spice the same as brands like smoking dragon herbal incense? I know I sound dumb but I am a concerned mother and I don't understand all these different brands! Thank you

@TufRlaws4predators if you are serious, any kind of herbal incense is going to be similar. there are many different manufacturers or brands. not many people now days have the patience to roll their own ciggs, so if you see someone rolling, it could be spice or whatever (not always though)
