Jan Brewer May Have Paul Babeu'd Herself -- FBI Says Border Patrol Agent Appears to Be Victim of Friendly Fire

Governor Jan Brewer
The FBI says there are "strong preliminary indications" that Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Ivie was killed by friendly fire last week near Bisbee, in an incident that also landed another agent in the hospital.

Thus, it appears that Governor Jan Brewer "Paul Babeu'd" herself, by handing out political blame for deaths before the facts came in.

As you may recall, Sheriff Babeu took to Facebook to voice his opinion on the case of five charred bodies found in the Vekol Valley in June.

"Thanks to all our Homicide detectives who are investigating this alarming 5 person murder and the torching of the vehicle (likely in an effort to destroy evidence)," Babeu typed up on Facebook. "All information is pointing that this is connected to the violent drug cartel smuggling in this high smuggling area."

In that same post, Babeu made the political connection, too. "The border is NOT more secure than ever Ms. Napolitano!" he wrote.

Those five bodies turned out to be those of a Tempe family, killed in a murder/suicide. It had nothing to do with a "violent drug cartel."

Now, after Ivie was killed in a shooting last week, Governor Brewer went straight for the politics in a statement released by her office.

"...There should be anger, too. Righteous anger -- at the kind of evil that causes sorrow this deep, and at the federal failure and political stalemate that has left our border unsecured and our Border Patrol in harm's way. Four fallen agents in less than two years is the result.

"It has been 558 days since the Obama administration declared the security of the U.S.-Mexico border 'better now than it has ever been.' I'll remember that statement today."

The FBI says it appears to be friendly fire, and the Border Patrol union head has described the likely scenario in which this happened.

Brewer didn't directly blame border-crossers for the shooting, and thorough details about the shooting haven't been released by the authorities. Still, there hasn't been any mention about any "kind of evil" being involved in the shooting, and authorities haven't said that better border security could've prevented it.

Brewer told the Associated Press she stands by her statement.

Get the facts before you begin spitting your bile for anyone to listen to. Maybe if she did that, she'd be somewhat respectable. Highly doubt it, though.

She's already dun fergotten that statement by today.

The same ol' Jan, spouts off at the mouth before she has the facts, what an embaressment for our state, she & old Joe GOTTA GO !!!

@phoenixnewtimes More to the point, Babeu Babeu'd himself, again, twice. Never waives a chance to wave the bloody shirt, facts or no.

I was wondering when this would start, Jan had did all she could to insert foot to mouth.

Babeu also Babeu'd himself on the Ivie shooting, twice.  He went of Fox 10 on Wednesday to endorse Brewer's (as it turns out, factually mistaken) politicization of the case, and then doubled down in an interview with a notorious crank anti-immigrant blogger, Kimberly Dvorak, posted after it had become clear that it was a case of friendly fire.  These people aren't going to let a little thing like the facts get in the way of their determination to wave the bloody shirt.

It feels really weird to be represented by someone who is, literally, dumber than the actual flag she claims to represent..

The Republic story points out that the ground sensors to which they were responding could have been tripped by grazing cattle.

Brewer's solution:  We should all become vegans.

More Border LIes:

I forgot about Babeu's Big Phony Shoot Out in the Desert that went viral on World Wide News, and cost Arizona Millions of dollars only to find out Babeu's Deputy lied, and had actually shot himself.

This boosted Babeu to National Anti-Mexican Fame before his "Gay with a Mexican Outing."

DNichols
DNichols

It is all about "Money" Brewer, Babeu, Mc Cain, Arpaio, ect. all jump at any thing they can to exagerate the Phony "Border War" they are trying to "Fleece America" for magic Federal Dollars.

Border Lies:

The Arizona Rancher supposedly shot by a Mexican, actually shot by Racist Vigilantes.

(This is why Jan Brewer said she signed SB1070) her signing SB1070 was based on a Lie.

The Forest Fire near the Border,, McCain lied and blamed it on Immigrants, it was actually set by U.S. campers.

Babeu's Vekol Vally Debacle.

Now this Border Patrol Debacle/Lie.

Funny I never heard Jan Brewer say she was angered, or saddened when two Immigrants were Murdered by Vigilantes in Camoflauge in Babeu's Pinal County?

Brewer signed a Bill funding Drunken non-vetted Vigilantes to Patrol the Border just a couple of months prior to the March 2012  Immigrant Murders in Pinal County?

Did Racist Jan get the Killings she paid for?

Arizona must get past this Racist Phony "Border War" and Ethnic Cleansing garbage.

This is "The wrong Road America is on."

This is our I.C.E.'d Economy!

we have 1 cop who was drinking and rolled his truck, we have 3 border agents shooting each other up, I'll buy joe the beer and guns to go hunting at the border if someone can help me buy him a truck to get there.

Brewer is just another member of the right wing sound and fury machine that shoot their mouths off and never lets facts stand in the way of blaming Obama for everything. She is a never ending embarrassment to this State. When I have relatives from back east email me and ask if "your " governor is crazy, I have to say yes.

That bar fly should not be allowed anywhere near a michrophone for the remainder of her term in office .what a wacko!

mikefrombisbee

It's not maybe. The old bar-bitch DID put her gnarled old hoof in her mouth. According to the CCSO and the BP union rep, the most likely scenario is that agent Ivie fired the first shots, wounding the other male agent. Whether both of the other agents were able to return fire wasn't clear but somebody killed Ivie by mistake. Gold Gulch is about a mile or so from where I live. It's a rugged canyon that drains out of the southern end of the Mule Mountains near Warren. It's dark, rocky terrain with a lot of brush and prospect holes. Not easy country to traverse in the daytime, let alone at night. It has been a smuggling route for a long time. There is also an unofficial shooting range off Gold Gulch Road, so it's difficult to know just what's going on when the pop-pop-popping starts. Ivie and the wounded agent were both experienced and were used to working at night. I don't know about the third agent. The word is that she was a rookie and that may have contributed to what happened. What is ironic about this incident is that Bisbee and Douglas are both peaceful communities where little violent crime takes place - at least compared to your neck of the woods. The weekly Bisbee police report carries a lot more animal control incidents than it does reports of property crime and violent crime. A civilian such as myself is also more likely to run into a stray steer on Border Road than an illegal alien or smuggler.\

Brewer and her handlers love it when violence occurs on the border because they can stir up the Goobers and also sell a few more private prison beds. RobAZ is correct when he says that the proposed volunteer state-sponsored militia was an incredibly stupid and dangerous idea - but hey, what can ya expect from the AZ legislature these days?

RobAZ
RobAZ

Gee, just think how safe we'd all be if the legislature had passed the bill last session creating a militia to patrol the border that would have been controlled by the Governor herself.

If things like this happen with highly trained and experienced BP agents, what would things be like with minimally trained and unvetted armed yahoos running around the border with high powered weapons?

RobAZ
RobAZ

Brewer is nothing more than a dim witted party hack who never should have risen higher than Secretary of State.  She was perfect in her role as the low level Republican partisan attending social events and party rallys (wherever alcohol was served) where she'd faithfully push the party agenda.  It was only through fate, a complete and utter lack of competent GOP candidates and the apathy of Arizona voters that she rose to Governor and retained the post.

Any person with a modicum of common sense and logic waits to find solid information before spouting off.  But not Jan.  She can only resort to what she knows; 3rd grade name calling.

LMAO love it..yet again, GOP tries to jump on something to try and embarrass Obama but instead only embarrass themselves.

This is clearly a case where Mrs. Brewer's handlers failed. She should not have been allowed anywhere near a microphone or given any chance to speak to reporters. It may be that Paul called her and said, "It's your turn, Jan. I'm tired of making an ass of myself in public. Now, go wag your tongue at the Obama administration like you wagged your finger at him. Your public loves it, for they know no better".

true that..if only arizona was represented in a kindker gentler fasion instead of all this racist crap........it really is unbecoming a humanbeing....

 @DNichols

DNichols, i couldn't agree with you more.  It is certainly a federal dollors money grab on the part of those four elected officials.  Racist Phony "Border War" and Ethnic Cleansing couldn't be more terms to describe the behavior in this state.  However, i'm not optimistic these behaviors will end anytime soon, if ever.  This kind of stuff is historically part of the fabric of this entire country.

DNichols, for the benefit of myself and anyone else who might not be familiar, could you give some detail about the arizona  rancher being shot by racist vigilantes and not a mexican, and the border fire actually being set by campers and not immigrants.

I've never been clear about the accounts and facts surrounding both of those incidents.

Thanks DNichols.  Great comment.

@Tommy_Collins Perhaps, Tommy it was after fifth or sixth drink time (that would be 10 a.m. for the guv) and she was feeling expansive. For GED Jan, "in vino, flatulus..."

danzigsdaddy

@Tommy_Collins they came out and admitted there is no evidence of there even being any crossers in the area (FBI and border patrol) the sensors were likely set off by cattle is what they are saying. maybe Jan should have waited for an investigation before her speech. its not an indicator of violent crossers, rather an indicator of jumpy agents. (no offense, but possibly even trigger happy also. because he went in guns blazing) its sad what happened, but there is no reason for Jan to try to turn it into something worse by riling up people by trying to pin our guys shooting on the people who try to cross.
