Jan Brewer Comments on Border Patrol Agent's Death by Going After Feds, Obama

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for brewer jan.jpg
Governor Jan Brewer has an opinion.
You probably could've seen this coming, but Governor Jan Brewer just couldn't issue a comment on the killing of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Ivie without mentioning President Obama or his administration.

While most public officials remained cordial with their remarks (for example, Attorney General Tom Horne and Senator John McCain), Brewer says everyone should be angry at the federal "failure."

"There should be anger, too," a snippet of Brewer's statement says. "Righteous anger -- at the kind of evil that causes sorrow this deep, and at the federal failure and political stalemate that has left our border unsecured and our Border Patrol in harm's way. Four fallen agents in less than two years is the result."

For the sake of comparison, six Border Patrol agents have been killed in the line of duty nationwide over the last two years. Before that, four Border Patrol agents were killed in the line of duty nationwide in 2009, two were killed in 2008, and four were killed in 2007; the year-by-year breakdown can be found here.

And of course, there's Brewer's line about the Obama administration.

"It has been 558 days since the Obama administration declared the security of the U.S.-Mexico border 'better now than it has ever been,'" Brewer says, referring to comments made by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. "I'll remember that statement today."

Arizona Republican Party Chairman Tom Morrissey had a similar tone, saying in part, "The murder of Nicholas Ivie and our law enforcement officers is the most devastating indicator that the federal government is not only failing to protect Arizona, it is failing to protect the very lives of our law enforcement personnel."

Brewer's entire political diatribe statement on the shooting can be found below:

"Arizona has lost another Border Patrol agent.

"In the dark hours before daybreak, one agent was killed and another injured while on-duty along Arizona's southern border. It is believed they were responding to an alerted ground sensor in a remote area near Bisbee, a short distance north of the border. In a tragic coincidence, these agents were assigned to Brian Terry Station -- newly dedicated and named for a U.S. Border Patrol agent murdered under similar circumstances in Arizona less than two years ago.

"More recently, in May 2011, we lost two more agents -- Eduardo Rojas, Jr. and Hector Clark -- when they were killed in a vehicle accident while pursuing suspected drug smugglers near Gila Bend.

"What happens next has become all-too-familiar in Arizona. Flags will be lowered in honor of the slain agent. Elected officials will vow to find those responsible. Arizonans and Americans will grieve, and they should. But this ought not only be a day of tears. There should be anger, too. Righteous anger -- at the kind of evil that causes sorrow this deep, and at the federal failure and political stalemate that has left our border unsecured and our Border Patrol in harm's way. Four fallen agents in less than two years is the result.

"It has been 558 days since the Obama administration declared the security of the U.S.-Mexico border 'better now than it has ever been.' I'll remember that statement today."

As it had turned out, Mr. Ivie's death is suspected to have been the result of "friendly fire."  Brewer should take a timeout before opening her mouth in an obvious attempt to burnish her political credibility.

Seems Mrs. Brewer has been wagging her nasty finger, once again. Her 20 watt bulb is certainly flickering.

The border patrol are part of the border security...Border Soldiers, as you will,....these men know that their lives can be in danger anytime they are doing their job. They are trained for these types of situations and sadly sometimes things go wrong. His family should be proud of their son as he died trying to protect his borders.

RIP Agent Nicholas Ivie.....

We all need to raise our voices in support of Sheriff Dever's truth as has Gordon Duff in Veteran's Today. I may not like "GED Jan" but getting attention to the problem could mean less purposeless deaths.

and jan has really made this a safe place to live!! she restored gun rights to mentally ill people, allowed people to carry concealed weapons without permits, allowed people to carry guns where they serve open alcohol.  she really has no room to say anything about safety

She was highlighting the fact that our border presence is inadequate. She was right to do so.

So Jan, was it Bush's fault when a soldier was killed in Iraq or Afghanistan? Fucking ignorant.

The guy's on the border, patrolling it. He gets shot by someone while patrolling the border. The current administration has nothing to do with this in the same way we don't blame the chief of police or sheriff when one of his or her officers is killed in the line of duty. The woman's a fucking idiot.

Due to state term limits Brewer is not eligible to run again. I'm still not sure why head shots of her that must be at least a decade old keep getting used in articles about her. We all know that her face looks like mummified leather currently.

Yup. That damn Obama made this guy get shot by an asshole. He is something. Come on people. If Romney was president (shudder for an hour) he still would have been shot.

Angie, it was a dwi involving crashing into another car when she was still a state senator. Apparently all sitting state politicians in Arizona have immunity from arrest for that kind of thing. And her son is in a mental asylum for kidnapping and raping a woman. Brewer used her executive power to purge her son's criminal record.

It is true that she used her executive powers to get away with a DUI and to keep her son out of jail because he allegedly raped someone?? I just read that. Lack of action with sexual assault cases = another reason not to meet men in Arizona.

here is a challenge for JoeArpaioFan, you talk all kinds of crap like you are some kind of american hero or americas last defense. there are many who post here who either served in the military or have had some law enforcement experience. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? I served in Grenada, tommy collins is retired law enforcement, Flyer9753 was law enforcement, USwarveteran's name states his background, and even YourProductSucks tells you where he is working now. this is just naming a few. we dont agree with YourProductSucks, but give him some thought when he talks, BECAUSE HE HAS EXPERIENCE in law enforcement. you are just a punk ass kid who not only is uninformed, but you are the MOST unpatriotic person we can think of. what is you lame excuse for not serving or defending your country as USwarveteran and myself have done? what is your excuse for not being one of the people who put their lives into the dedication of law enforcement as Tommy Collins, Flyer9753, and YourProductSucks have done? this is what you should do, JOIN the service, JOIN the police force, do something to prove what a patriot you are. you like to bump those fat ugly lips of yours about how you THINK you are some patriot..........PROVE IT!!! you are still young enough to get into either organization. if not, you are simply a coward speaking out of turn

I ask you would it have been more appropriate if Gov. Brewer blamed say the Chinese or the Japanese for the Border patrol agent's death?  Of course not!!!  Only our government is to blame including but not limited to that sea-hag Janet Napolitino.

Well there really is not much we can honestly count on Jan Brewer to do. Let's see what those things are:

-Be Disrespectful to the office of the President with the entire finger thing

-Screw up her own opening comments in the debate even when reading from a teleprompter

-Make up stories about headless bodies in the desert

-Use executive powers to get out of a DUI

-User executive powers to keep her rapist son out of jail

-Fail to uphold the voters will by putting MMJ laws/dispensaries into place

-etc..etc....etc.....

-Being drunk 99% of the time, especially on camera

So I can honestly say that I expected this response from GED Gin Jan, it fits right in with her past accomplishments and the things we can count on from her.

We can count on her to be an exploitive, self serving, jump the gun before having the info politician making Arizona look bad, which in the end, is really what she does best.

Has anyone ever heard or been to the Maginot Line?   The French built massive concrete fortification with the intent to keep the Germans out.  The Germans simply went around.  I suggest next time the Gov Brewer goes to Europe, have her stop at the Kaiserslautern military community and get a briefing on this subject.

Been there many time for Officer's development training on what not to do.

Agent Nicholas I salute you and your border brothers.  May you rest in peace.

@honest you know how after a tragedy, they ask for a moment of silence? jan did not give that consideration. the body of that agent was used as a political weapon by Brewer before the family had time to see their loved one or notify family

@MichaelCarpenter Guns don't kill people.  People don't kill people, Obama kills people.

Makes sense to ... no one.

QstionEvythng

 @MichaelCarpenter

Actually, it would have been more appropriate for Brewer to blame the criminal that pulled the trigger - he is the on who is truly at fault.  Or the U.S. drug user that creates the demand that these smugglers seek to satisfy.  Or the Mexican government for its inability to exercise even a semblance of control over its territory.  Or, if you want to blame the U.S. government, blame it for 40 years of a failed "war on drugs" that has created the environment in which these armed cartels operate.

In this case, the fact that a law enforcement agent was shot while enforcing the law is an indication that security on a border is present and active.  Our government put law enforcement agents between the bad guys and us, the law enforcement agents intervened and did what they were supposed to do.

The real problem, and the biggest indication of a lack of security at the border, is when there is no way to sense that smugglers are trying to move through and/or there is no one on the ground to confront them.  That may have been the case 10 years ago, but it was not the case yesterday.  The fact that the Border Patrol detected the smugglers and were then able to put boots on the ground to intercept them demonstrates that broder security has been improved.

Oh, and calling people names like "sea-hag" does nothing to advance your argument nor your credibility.

mikefrombisbee
mikefrombisbee

@guest What cracks me up is is the number of Goobers who have never even been to the border, but who are experts on the border and illegal immigration because they are spoon-fed racist and nativist bullshit. But thinking is hard and takes time.

Your analogy of the border to the Maginot line has some validity. Drud smugglers, with their vast resources and ruthlessness, will always find a way - aircraft, submarines, tunnels, bribing officials, etc.- to get their loads through the border. Illegal immigration, on the other hand, is way down. And that's what ranchers who live along the border are saying. But such inconvenient facts get in the way of the ill-conceived delusions of nativists, who can't separate one issue from the other.  And Jan? just an old drunk with wet brain.
