UPDATE: Border Patrol Agent Nicolas Ivie, 30, has been identified as the agent who was killed this morning. Ivie joined the Border Patrol in January 2008. The other agent is in stable condition, Border Patrol says.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed and another one was wounded in a shooting this morning near Bisbee.

The agents were stationed at the Border Patrol station in Naco, which is named after slain Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

A Border Patrol spokesman says the shooting occurred at 1:50 a.m. today.

Details of the shooting are light at this point, but the agents were reportedly responding to a sensor alarm that had gone off near the border.

There weren't any suspects when initial reports came out, and the identities of the agents haven't been released. Border Patrol says the name of the slain agent will be released once his next-of-kin is notified.

The agent wounded in the shooting was hospitalized after being shot in the ankle and buttocks.

Agent Brian Terry -- whose 2010 death has been linked to the "Fast and Furious" operation -- was actually killed near Nogales, although the Naco station bears his name.

Border Patrol says the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office are leading the investigation.

Stay tuned for updates.

And this happens just the day before the first presidential debate, is this a coincidence?.

Could it be this an inside job from someone?. Just by seen to the levels that  some people

go in order to get elected. No doubt this is going to be linked to "fast & furious" and the Obama

administration, there are gonna be guns left and blah, blah blah.

Just like the rancher assasination, , what I don't understand is, that if someone kills, are the weapons gonna be left behind? Just think about it.

You Know the rancher assasination was just when SB1070 was being dealt with.

I spoke to an ICE supervisor who said the DOJ flew to the scene in a Bell Ranger helicopter ...checked some serial numbers on the guns tramping all over the scene...When asked if they would help medivac the injured and shot borger agent  - the DOJ guys snorthed and said..."we are not here for that" climbed into their Wirlybird and took off in a cloud of dust.

The only thing that is guaranteed out of this tragedy is that any number of grandstanding politicians and/or candidates will shoot there mouths off about this being someone's fault.

This had nothing to do with gun ownership. It more than likely had to do with smuggling. I know the wounded agent and his family. They are very good people - VERY good people. He was doing his job. So was the slain agent. Keep them in your thoughts. I just hope they nailed the SOB or SOBs who did this.

politicians who campaign against guns don't last long in office and don't get voted in. the discussion will simply never happen because people will vote in candidates who oppose that view every time meaning that you lose having any voice at all because of the manipulations of the "conservative" class.

twitter person 7407413a, not arguing, but gun law reform would not have affected the outcome of this case. if it was a border incident, odds are it was someone crossing and our gun laws would not be in place in mexico

@welcometotheusamigos  so basically you are all for killing cops and border agents just so long as it can validate your racism and fear of foreigners?

@welcometotheusamigos Hell, you have yet to show any evidence that you actually think. Most of the human race would consider your comment to be more flatulence than thought.
