Blind Faith: not just an Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood project.
As the so-called "papers please" provision of Senate Bill 1070 was cleared for use yesterday, Governor Jan Brewer issued a statement reminding the public that there are also laws "barring racial profiling" practices by police.

"It is not enough that SB 1070 be enforced. It must be enforced efficiently, effectively and in harmony with the Constitution and civil rights. I have full faith and confidence that Arizona's State and local law enforcement officers are prepared for this task."

I'd go with 'expect costly legal bills' with the supreme court pretty much advising how it should be done.

There should be a lot of snow birds from the upper Midwest with Canadian sounding accents that should be asked if they're legal for it not to be racial profiling

Now that "papers please" got the green light, it is time for a celebration!  Now let me make something perfectly clear!  Pulling over Mexicans who have broken our traffic laws and asking to see their papers IS NOT RACIAL PROFILING.  But it seems that Hispanics think that just because they are Hispanic they should not be pulled over.  Their crying wolf indicates that they think the deserve a free pass.  That ain't gonna happen.  The reality is that if Hispanics do not want to get pulled over they should not break the law.  By saying that police should not ask for papers would be the same thing as saying that police should not ask to see proof of insurance (because they want to be able to get away with being uninsured).  Police don't pull people over just because they are Mexican, they pull them over because they break the law.

A few weeks ago when I was returning to Phoenix from Tucson I got pulled over on I-10 before Casa Grande at 3 in the morning for changing lanes without signaling.  The cop did not ask to see my papers but if he had I would have been more than happy to show him that I am a Citizen.  The only people who have a problem with being asked for papers are illegal aliens and their supporters because they want to be able to remain under the radar and not be caught. But what gives any illegal alien the right to remain in this country illegally?  What part about the word ILLEGAL don't you understand?

@JoeArpaioFan So you carry your birth certificate with you at all times? Because your drivers license is in no way proof that you are not the mexican you look eerily like in that picture, Scotty. And in order to not profile racially I would expect that the po po will ask non outlandishly hued people for their papers too. I highly doubt that, I as a white man,  will ever ever be asked for my "papers" while in AZ. Even if I race down central in a monte carlo  with the mexican national flag painted across my hood, blaring mariachi music and wearing a sombrero, I am about 99.99999% sure my whiteness will save my ass.

@JoeArpaioFan by the way, i have never seen a ticket for not signaling a lane change. so basically you were pulled over because you dont look right. when they got closer and heard you talk, they realized they had not pulled over anyone other than a racist. and #2, you lie about everything, so i dont believe you were pulled over.

@JoeArpaioFan you just dont get it. people like you who dont understand or just plain wont listen to what is being said or debated are way worse than bigots like arpaio. this country has rampant rascism that is going to eventually start a war in this country. and its ignorant people like you that are fanning the flames. when this country erupts it will also be cowards like you like hide when the fighting breaks out, even though most of the problem is caused by uneducated hate spewing rascists like you. i want you to honestly tell me racism is dead and does not exist. and if you can prove that, then tell me cops are immune to hate and racism and never  commit these crimes. while you are spewing hate out of your mouth you arent even aware of what the hell we are all debating. NOBODY is saying the illegals should be exempt from the law, you are trying to put words in everyones mouth because you have absolutely no idea what we are talking about. we are trying to argue about the validity of these stops. the cop has to have a reason to suspect you of being an illegal or you have to be breaking a law for him to stop you and inquire as to your citizenship. what people are complaining about is that many (not all) are being stopped and questioned for no reason, and after the stop is made, a B.S. reason is being used as for the reason for the stop. there have been such excuses as "your turn signal was on too long or on too short" which is not illegal and many times is not even what happened. i have seen stories like "your license plate light is not illuminated for 40 feet" and i have also seen these claims contested and proven wrong. we are not contesting the fight against illegal immigration. we are contesting the way it is being done, and the ethics of some who are enforcing it. maybe if you had any brains at all and werent such a hate filled idiot, you would see this. grow up, get an education and get a clue. you are not helping the cause you have decided to try to be the champion of justice for. all you are doing is proving that racists really like it.

@danzigsdaddy He had no idea who I was.  It was 3 in the morning. Just a way to raise revenue.

@danzigsdaddy We need to nip illegal immigration in the bud any way we can.  "Show me your papers" is the best common-sense approach.

@JoeArpaioFan is this getting through to you now, or are you still just on a hate rampage? big news skippy COPS DO LIE (not everyone of them, but it does happen)

danzigsdaddy
danzigsdaddy topcommenter

@JoeArpaioFan and by that statement you have just proven that many cops have ulterior motives. now whats to stop them from lying about why they stopped someone? AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE ARGUING

danzigsdaddy
danzigsdaddy topcommenter

@JoeArpaioFan but its the approach or rationale of the stops that we are questioning. you can ask me, but you better have some reason besides that, that you are coming up to me to ask me that question. many of the stops being questioned are, stop to check immigration status....then make up a reason for the initial contact
