I'm sure all the law enforcement officers we see meeting there for lunch on a weekly basis are 'thanking' Joe too. This man finds so many rinky dink ways to get publicity instead of addressing real crime in Maricopa County, and people evidently just eat it up (like chicken enchiladas in red sauce at Casa Blanca). These people are like family since we eat there 3 times a week, so I wish them the best and hope they reopen soon. Wonder how many of their loyal customers will still be voting for the old coot. I know I won't.

Sounds like the editor is doing what every editor does at every newspaper/publisher on the planet. If they are not doing it via the comments, they are looking at the server generated reports that tell them which pages get the most views and so on.

IF the people who are writing the articles are falsely inflating their stats the editors will eventually figure it out and put a stop to it.

I do still think JAF has some type of affiliation with sheriff Joe, even if it is a minor/unofficial one. No one who does not have some sort of affiliation with Joe could spew the crap and do as much butt kissing as he does and not have some type of connection.

@Flyer9753 @JoeArpaioFan I've worked at New Times in the past as an intern - there is definitely a correlation between the number of comments and the number of articles which get posted up here and put in the physical paper. Writers with fewer comments don't get the same placement or attention from the editors. It's also just a reasonable assumption to make as this is a very logical way to judge the popularity of a writer or the controversial nature of the subject matter. It's just like JAF to not understand this concept - much like he can hardly put together a sentence which makes sense. His constant trolling of these pages, while useless as a method of engaging others in a meaningful conversation, is very successful in increasing the number of comments as the people who respond to his inanity inflate the volume.

@jon49417 @experian I would gladly be willing to grant some wortthy migrant worker the use of my SSN if he or she will be getting deductions from their pay for SS and it gets deposited into my account at the SSA! What a GREAT idea - let's set up a system where individual citizens can "sponsor" a migrant in exchange for the SS taxes being deposited on that citizens' account. The citizen would be responsible for paying any costs of prosecution should the migrant commit a crime as well. This would be an incentive for the citizens to make sure migrants are treated well. This "sponsorship" should result in the migrant being given a legal status for temporary work in the US. Instead of illegally gaining a SSN they would be getting it legally and benefiting the citizens who sponsor them.

We have a good employer sanctions law. Everyone knows that if you really want to stop illegal immigration, take away the reason for them coming here - Jobs.

So why is it that Joe has not arrested anyone for giving them the job?

Seems to me if you want to stop the snake of illegal immigration you would chop off the head not the tail, unless your history shows that you made your 'mark' by going after small time crooks while ignoring the larger ones since you are too scared to go after the big boys.

Not only would that take them out of the workplace permanently but it would save the government money when it comes to incarceration and deportation. Signs need to be posted at the border that says ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK - TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT.

Perhaps someone should inform Sheriff Joe's PR folks that it is illegal to create jobs for "legal citizens". With a few exceptions, employers can not discriminate on the basis of citizenship.

But I'm sure that Joe and most of his idiot followers are too dense to understand that people LEGALLY work in this country who aren't US citizens.

This is what Marcy is referring to. There are many individuals that legally work in the United States who are not citizens (me included). Federal law DOES make it illegal to discriminate based on citizenship status (which includes status citizens, permanent residents, temporary residents, refugees, and asylees).

The fact that the Sheriff's office is stating that they're creating jobs for "legal citizens" is discrimination. Maybe it was just bad wording on their part, but you think they'd know better.

Tucson cops are doing their part to create jobs, also. More jailers now in Pima County; more new vendors of marijuana, to replace those busted, according to this morning's Arizona Daily Star:

ANY amount that Joe might be contributing to the economy is vastly offset by what Joe has cost the economy, which is upwards of 100million at latest count.

Add to that the fact that maricopa county insurance liability now has been raised from $1m to $5m, due directly to MCSO and Sheriff Joe according to the insurer.
