During their three games with the Colorado Rockies this past weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks produced a whopping 33 runs off a total of 48 hits.

Turns out they should've saved some juice for the series' finale last night with the Rox as the D-backs most certainly could've used the hits during their 4-2 loss to the Mile High City squad at Coors Field.

Arizona's offense faltered at exactly the wrong point in the season, as Monday night's defeat all but ended their slim hopes of grabbing the second National League wild card and making a postseason appearance.

Last night's loss, combined with a win by the St. Louis Cardinals, pushed the D-backs to 5.5 games out of the wild card spot with a mere nine games remaining in the season.

Although the D-backs are still technically in the running, they're likely to be officially eliminated after being destroyed by the San Francisco Giants sometime this week.

Trevor Cahill (12-12, 3.86) pitched six innings and fanned a half-dozen Rockies but gave up nine hits overall. That include allowing RBIs in the first and fourth innings, which gave Colorado three of the four runs during the game.

Arizona's bats were ice cold for most of the game, save for Jason Kubel's two-run homer with Paul Goldschmidt (who had been walked by Rox pitcher Tyler Chatwood).

As we mentioned, the Diamondbacks will report to AT&T Park in San Francisco tonight for a three-game mauling by the Giants starting tonight.

Josh Collmenter (4-3, 3.92) will go against Tim Lincecum (10-14, 4.91). First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. TV: Fox Sports Arizona. Radio: KTAR 620-AM. More info: www.dbacks.com.
