GOP Candidate Scared of "Middle Easterners" in U.S., Especially Since They "Look Mexican"

Mexicans.
Republican congressional candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer would prefer that people like Jesus Christ or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not come to the United States -- "legally or illegally" -- because they're "Middle Easterners."

Those ideas came out of her mouth in an interview from a year ago, which was posted yesterday by her opponent, Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva.

See, the problem is, "Middle Easterners" look a whole lot like Mexicans, according to Saucedo Mercer, so it's hard to tell who the actual "Middle Easterners" are.

"If you know Middle Easterners, a lot of them, they look Mexican or they look, you know, like a lot of people in South America, dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes," she said. "And they mix. They mix in."

And what about those Mexican-looking "Middle Easterners"?

"And those people, their only goal in life is to, to cause harm to the United States," she said. "So why do we want them here, either legally or illegally?"

It's probably a surprise to Saucedo Mercer, but "Middle Easterner" isn't a synonym for "terrorist," nor do all "Middle Easterners" look like Mexicans or South Americans.

See, the Middle East also includes countries that the United States doesn't want to bomb the shit out of, like Israel, some African nations, as well as a few former Soviet Union countries.

Saucedo Mercer's also a Mexican immigrant who gained U.S. citizenship in 1991, so she clearly has that "Middle Easterner" look to her, according to her logic.

Saucedo Mercer's response to the video, which she posted on Facebook, is that the video Grijalva posted was "EDITED" from several different interviews. The original interview can be found in its entirety here if there are any further questions about that.

Saucedo Mercer's husband told Talking Points Memo that his wife may have misspoken.

You can find the selected portion of Saucedo Mercer's severe confusion in the video below, uploaded by Grijalva's campaign:

Hope her anti-Mid Easterner statement gets forwarded to AIPAC  so they can channel their money to another candidate that is less stupid and less scared.

Prayer rugs and korans a sure sign of malicious intent. Much like a crucifix and a bible scares a middle easterner?

So if people from the Middle East look Mexican, Mexicans can look Middle Eastern, so in turn, Ms. Saucedo-Mercer must look like her own worst enemy. Does she feel threatened when she looks in the mirror?

Further, she says people from the Middle East can look like other South American peoples. You know, who happen to be descended from Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, British, Dutch, Swiss, etc. So Middle Easterners can also look like Western Europeans.

Gee, weird how it's starting to sound as though we all look alike, because we're all human!

As for suggesting that having a copy of the Koran and prayer rugs is a "threat," that is like saying a Catholic Mexican with a bible, a rosary, and a picture of the Virgin Mary in their living room is a threat. They are completely equivalent examples in terms of "danger" - because they're not dangerous.

What an embarrassment this woman is to our country.

I'm scared of Canadian and European immigrants because so many of them look white like me.

Typical current Republican/GOP, thinking they are better than everyone else.

Seems like that is a sentiment I have heard before somewhere in history.... Somewhere in Europe in the 1940's? Yup... Amazingly similar attitude and statements

Well, there's a simple solution: just have all of the Middle Easterners wear some kind of identifying article of clothing. Perhaps only let them live in certain areas, you know, to "concentrate" the population so you can keep track of them.

I cannot believe that this woman won the GOP primary with 64% of the vote.  She sounds like Todd Akin on another issue.

this woman has pretty good ideas, in general. I'd go another step and ban all mexicans, but stopping the flow into my country, of anybody from the middle east would not be a bad thing. none of these third worlders have anything to offer the united states and I'm in no mood to provide favors.

Nothing more repulsive than a Mexican that thinks he or she is better than others ........they are More racist and in their mind think they are from some special place in the sky .never understood this. I've lived and worked in the valley all my life, born and raised  here and still have been subjected to immigration raids because of what I look like .The only people that have given me problems were .yes Hispanic employers .they think their shit don't stink .Stick it bitch .

Sorry, you stupid bitch, this statement was from a SINGLE interview, there is no editing involved, you said it, and stuck your foot in your mouth, this all comes out as a continuous statement, taken with you sitting on a couch, with some khaki outfit on and a 'USMC' pin. You can't claim "edited" when the statement is right there IN BETWEEN other edited parts, but completely whole and untouched.

@narizona Dr. Jorge O'Leary, my grandmother's former physician and the Phelps Dodge company doctor fired by PD back in the 1980s for treating strikers and their families in Clifton, is an immigrant from Mexico with Celtic features. Where would he fit in to the Middle Eastern look-alikes? This lady is a delu ded, ignorant, self-righteoustea bagger who lives and breathes tea bagger bullshit mythologies. There's no help for her.
