Gabriela Saucedo Mercer Attempts to Clarify Anti-"Middle Easterners" Comment, Says She Mentioned Chinese People Too

Republican congressional candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer says the campaign for her Democratic opponent, Congressman Raul Grijalva, was deceptive about her comment that she doesn't want "Middle Easterners" in the United States.

Mercer's piss-poor explanation: Grijalva's campaign failed to mention that she talked about Chinese people, too.

Earlier this week, Grijalva's campaign posted a portion from an interview Mercer did a year ago, in which she talked about immigration.

"If you know Middle Easterners, a lot of them, they look Mexican or they look, you know, like a lot of people in South America, dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes; and they mix -- they mix in," she said. "And those people, their only goal in life is to, to cause harm to the United States. So why do we want them here, either legally or illegally?"

The problem with that, according to a statement released by Mercer's campaign, is that Grijalva's campaign didn't include her thoughts on Chinese people.

"The truth of the matter is Mercer was referring to OTMs (Other Than Mexicans) who come from various parts of the world crossing the southern border -- legally and illegally -- to exact harm upon The United States," the statement says. "Interestingly, People For Grijalva do not appear to be equally concerned about Mercer's reference to Chinese citizens who cross our southern border. Perhaps it does not quite satisfy the narrative they have in mind."

Her blurb about Chinese people came right before her comments on "Middle Easterners" -- which you can see in this video, with the question starting at the 7:21 mark:

"You think about this, 'other than Mexicans,' are, just last year -- I don't have the numbers, you know I remember taking notes -- but if I remember correctly, it was 25,000 of them they were able to apprehend, 'other than Mexicans.' That includes Chinese, Middle Easterners -- if you know Middle Easterners, a lot of them, they look Mexican or they look, you know, like a lot of people in South America, dark skin, dark hair, brown eyes; and they mix -- they mix in. And those people, their only goal in life is to, to cause harm to the United States. So why do we want them here, either legally or illegally?"

After listening to the entire response, it's not entirely clear what the hell she's talking about, but it sure sounds like she doesn't want Middle Easterners here "legally or illegally." And maybe Chinese people, too.

Why does anyone read this liberal rag anyway?  Isn't it just a glorified concert list?

If you knew the woman you'd know she is top shelf all the way. Now her opponent, Grijalva has a capitol D after his name.  He's a party lap dog and all about entitlements for votes and a lot of other Dhimocratic BS that hurts American tax payers.  It wouldn't surprise me if illegal and dead voters got the man elected.  Gabby Saucedo on her worst day would be 20 times better for the district, AZ and the USA.

If you knew Gabriela, you would know that her words have been twisted around. She doesn't hate anyone. She just thinks people ought to come here legally, like she did and like I did. FYI, I am a Middle Easterner and I know Gabriela personally. This is nothing more than a cynical attempt to smear her! Shame on Grijalva and his cronies for spreading this negativity around! Ask yourself why they need to do this? Could it be that Grijalva has a terrible record of costing Arizona jobs which they need to hide?

Why do we in Arizona always get the nut cases?  Do we import them, or is it just that being the laughing stock of the country (if not the world), we simply draw them like excrement draws flies?

Why do we want her here, legally or illegally. She may be naturalized but she doesn't know shit regarding this country's history.

Sounds like she is creating a base to run for Governor. She sounds like the next step in de-evolution after Brewer.

I can't see how Gabriela Saucedo Mercer can even feel she is qualified to serve the citizens of this state, she is a Tea-Publi-Con puppet, nothing more. Mercer ranks right down there with Brain-Fart Brewer,in the intelligence department. Give it up Puppet Lady and save this state any further ridicule.  Mercer, ay un dicho mexicano que dice,Para pendeja no se estudia,y usted de seguro ya es pendeja.

@MilRetAZ What kind of liberal newspaper runs huge gun advertisements like the ones I see on PNT? I think libertarian would be a better label.

@CitizenAble Btw, Saucedo-Mercer is doomed. Mark my words, there is absolutely no way she is going to win considering most of the constituents in her district vote liberal. Tucson has always leaned to the left when compared to other cities in Arizona. I would know because I'm from Tucson.

Her words weren't twisted around. Watch the whole video.

@Bnbk I watched the video of her interview. And quite frankly, she doesn't make any sense.  Tell me this is not the same person that neo-Nazi hugger's (Pearce) "Sham Candidate" Olivia Cortez.

And by the way, she "looks like Middle-Eastern" woman to me.
