Congressman Ben Quayle.
If you've heard that Congressman Ben Quayle was the subject of an FBI investigation, you probably heard that from his primary opponent, Congressman David Schweikert -- because that didn't actually happen.

Schweikert's ads informing the public about this imaginary FBI investigation moved Quayle to get his legal beagle involved, as his lawyer sent a cease-and-desist letter over Schweikert ads that made reference to that investigation.

That FBI non-investigation occurred during the Israeli lake scandal/non-scandal, in which Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder hopped in a holy lake naked during a Republican congressional delegation's trip to the country last year.

Quayle also was accused in the Politico story of hopping in the lake but said he did so just to "secure a jar of water."

The hook to Politico's story was that the FBI investigated the whole thing -- which has been debunked by just about every media outlet covering the story that isn't named Politico.

"The purpose of this letter is to demand that your station immediately remove from traffic any advertising placed by Rep. Schweikert's campaign that in any manner associates Mr. Quayle...with any purported investigation by the [FBI]," the cease-and-desist letter says. "Mr. Quayle has never been the subject of any FBI investigation, and any statements to said effect are false and defamatory."

Schweikert's campaign apparently got the memo -- Quayle's campaign says the ads were replaced.

This also comes after Schweikert dumped $130,000 into his campaign, which never seems to be a good thing, as far as appearances are concerned.

And here's your funny quote from the Quayle campaign:

"This is like running against The Wizard of Oz," said Quayle spokesman Jay Heiler. "We are all asked to pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, while the great and powerful Dave Schweikert billows out the smoke and tells all of us that he is way ahead and everyone has voted and the race is over. But he's  $130,000 lighter today, and despite Dave's affinity for unions, it didn't go to the Lollipop Guild. It went into his desperate campaign."

The cease-and-desist letter can be found below:

I feel sorry for the voters of that district. Who is the lesser of two evils?

I think Quayle is an idiot, but Schweikert's campaign has led me to believe that Schweirkert is a mean-spirited, slimy lying dirt bag.

Poor Benny. He must be the victim here. OR, would the victim be the good people that depend on the waters of the Sea of Galilee? I mean, Benny DID swipe that Sea of Galilee water to bring back home to dip his young'un in for the baptismal drill. Say, did Benny have to clear that with TSA?
