Rookie left-hander Patrick Corbin, making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Reno, stifled the Los Angeles Dodgers (and their new high-profile acquisitions Shane Victorino and Hanley Ramirez) on Wednesday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep in L.A.

Patrick pitched six innings of two-hit shutout ball, and three relievers further put the clamps on the Dodger offense, in the 4-0 win. The D-backs are now 1.5 games behind the Dodgers for second place in the National League West and three games behind division leader the San Francisco Giants, who will play tonight against the New York Mets.

Miguel Montero and new D-backs third-baseman Chris Johnson drove in all four of the D-backs' runs. Montero started the scoring in the second inning with a single that drove in Paul Goldschmidt (who went 3-for-3 on the day). In the fourth inning, Johnson hit his second home run in three days to make the score 2-0. In the eighth, Montero gave the D-backs two insurance runs with a two-run homer, his 13th of the year.

The D-backs get a day off on Thursday, their first in 20 days, as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the out-of-contention Phillies in a three-game series. Ian Kennedy (9-8, 4.20 earned-run average) will take on Joe Blanton (8-9, 4.59). The D-backs are 10-14 against the NL East this season. First pitch is 4:05 p.m. TV: Fox Sports Arizona. Radio: KTAR 620 AM. More info: www.dbacks.com.
