Depending on how many depressing things you're exposed to on a daily basis, this could be the most depressing thing you see today.
That's a cat, still alive -- at the time -- buried up to its head in concrete in Colorado City.
The property owner just so happens to not be a member Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
This video was shot in the FLDS-haven along the Arizona/Utah border on May 31, weeks before the town was sued by the Justice Department for its police force's alleged discrimination against non-FLDS members, and before the Mohave County Sheriff's Office started patrolling the town.
The video was shot by Andrew Chatwin, a former FLDS member who's frequently been at odds with the FLDS-run town since willingly leaving the church.
As you can imagine, Chatwin thinks FLDS members are responsible for putting the cat on the property of fellow ex-FLDS member Isaac Wyler.
The Justice Department also thinks FLDS and the police force -- known as the "Marshal's Office" -- has done some creepy things to animals over the years.
From the civil rights lawsuit:
In 2001, [convicted child rapist/former FLDS leader Warren] Jeffs issued an edict that all domestic dogs would be banned from the Cities. Less than one month later, in compliance with Jeffs's edict, Marshal's Deputies went to each household in the Cities and asked residents to turn over any dogs that they had in the home to the Officers. The Marshal's Deputies then shot and killed the dogs in a slaughter pit a short distance from the Cities. Two of the Marshal's Deputies involved in this incident remain employed by the Marshal's Office.
In a brief interview Chatwin did, he says the cat didn't survive.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Chatwin also claims the "Marshal's Office" didn't do a damn thing about it.
