Arizona Diamondbacks Trade for Peanuts as MLB Trade Deadline Passes

Not even real peanuts. The candy circus peanuts.
Despite several of the big-name players for the Arizona Diamondbacks being mentioned in trade rumors, the non-waiver trade deadline passed this afternoon, and they're still Diamondbacks.

Instead, the D-backs opted to trade Yale-educated lefty Craig Breslow to the Boston Red Sox for reliever Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik. (Scott Podsednik?)

Breslow and Albers have both made 40 appearances this year; Albers' ERA is 2.29, and Breslow's is 2.70.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the "major league sources" who brought up the numerous trade rumors were full of shit.

Several MLB talking heads were putting forth this idea of the Diamondbacks trying to acquire Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs for Justin Upton.

Not only did that not happen, the Cubs are on Upton's no-trade list, and the D-backs weren't even going after Garza -- they were going after his teammate, Ryan Dempster, according to Sports 620's John Gambadoro.

ESPN's Buster Olney still claims it was Garza.

Among the other "information" out there, here's what ESPN's file was showing for today:

There's your $2.50 a month.

Precisely none of that happened, and unfortunately, there were way more outrageous rumors out there.

It's not like the D-backs necessarily needed anybody, but with the team currently sitting right in the middle of the division, it probably would've been nice to get someone not named Scott Podsednik.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers picked up the "Flyin' Hawaiian" Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies for next to nothing, and the Giants scored Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence.

Don't worry, fans, Kevin Towers -- the team's general manager -- says the team's roster is fantastic "OK."

I am curious why PNTs is pushing so hard for Justin Upton to be traded. I think that would be a mistake. Sorta like how the Reds Trade Hamilton to the Rangers and look at how well he is doing now?
