Arizona Diamondbacks Dominated by New York Mets Rookie Matt Harvey in His First Big League Game

Matt Harvey pitched 5 1/3 innings last night at Chase Field, striking out 11, while giving up just three hits and zero runs.
The Diamondbacks had opportunity (after opportunity, after opportunity), but lost 3-1 to give Harvey a win in his first attempt.
There were some interesting calls at the plate again (red triangles were called strikes for Mets pitchers), but the D-backs couldn't handle Harvey's fastballs no matter where they were placed.

The game didn't start off well for the D-backs and starter Wade Miley, who gave up two runs on a Scott Hairston double.
Miley generally pitched well, although he gave up a triple in the fourth, and that runner scored on the next play to extend the Mets lead to 3-1.
The D-backs' first run came in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Jason Kubel earned a walk off former D-backs reliever John Rauch, and Paul Goldschmidt hit him over to third on a double.
With two on and one out -- and a chance to tie the game -- Justin Upton hit a sacrifice fly to bring in one run.
Lyle Overbay recorded the third out at the plate by swinging in the general direction of balls coming near the plate.
The D-backs got one more chance, in the bottom of the ninth, with two on, two outs, and Jason Kubel at the plate, representing the winning run.
He struck out looking.

That was the first of four games in the series against the Mets, as Josh Collmenter faces Jonathon Niese at Chase Field. Game time is 6:40 p.m.
