Should Andrew Thomas Have to Foot the Bill for His Disciplinary Proceeding?

thomasstache.jpg
That's a mustache.
As our colleague Ray Stern reported yesterday, former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas may have to fork over $554,000 for the disciplinary proceeding that ended with him losing his law license.

Thomas, as you may recall, was disbarred by a Supreme Court disciplinary panel that found he and some of his comrades abused their power as prosecutors.

Former deputy prosecutor Lisa Aubuchon lost her law license too, and a third former prosecutor, prosecutor, Rachel Alexander, was suspended for six months.

And someone's got to pay for it.

Stern reported that the tab represents the "recoverable costs" of the proceedings, including costs for hotel stays, meals, expert witnesses, and other expenses needed to bring the case against Thomas, Aubuchon, and Alexander.

Thomas called it quits on appealing the judgment against him, while his freshly disbarred colleagues are still pursuing it, so only Thomas' bill has been added up for now.

This morning's question: Should there be a $544,000 check signed Andrew P. Thomas?

It's not over til their appeals are ruled on.  It was a 100% railroad job with no evidence anyway.  The judges and Gleason should be charged for using up the taxpayer's money!

On a similar note, The Az Legislature has passed a budget. They left out the $261,000.00 welfare check Russell Pearce is whining about saying that they will "consider it at another time."

Definition of "Consider it at another time."

Wait 2 weeks(The average memory span of an Az. Conservative) and do it behind closed doors so the sheeple won't know about it

You bet he should, everyone else has to personally pay for their legal defense.

Arpaio should split the fee with Andrew Thomas since Arpaio is equally as guilty, but didn't have a law license to lose and so he had no skin in the game.

Well, he doesn't  have a job.  Oh wait a minute.  Maybe he can get work at a grocery store bagging or stocking shelves and the state could garnish his check.  Do grocery stores hire felons?

The County should have some kind of anti-corruption insurance bucket fund to pay for these kinds of things, say, tucked away in the HR department.
