Phoenix Coyotes One Loss From Elimination After Losing Game Three to Los Angeles Kings

The Phoenix Coyotes' incredible run this year is one loss away from being over.

The Coyotes lost 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center last night, in what was probably the closest shot for the Coyotes to win a game over this three-game stretch in the Western Conference finals.

The Coyotes were even first on the board in this game, as Keith Yandle made a sweet pass to Daymond Langkow early in the second period, which Langkow dumped in the net past Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick.

It was Kings star Anze Kopitar who answered yet again, and scored on Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith with another backhand, as he did in game one.

A shot from the Kings' Dwight King early in the third period broke the tie, and wound up being the last goal of the game.

Kudos to Coyotes coach Dave Tippett for noting the officiating and the Hollywood acting of the Kings.

The Kings have certainly looked like the better team this series, poor officiating and Hollywood acting or not, but it's been frustrating for fans, players, and apparently Tippett.

For example, here's the Kings' Jarret Stoll acting like a child during an imaginary scuffle with captain Shane Doan:

This one's probably the worst, as Doan gets, what, spear-tackled? Followed by a smack to the back, and somehow, some way, Doan landed in the penalty box too:

Whatever your opinion on the officiating or diving -- which apparently is a disease for Los Angeles sports teams -- the Coyotes are still in it, as game four is an early one at noon on Sunday.

This writer is an embarrassment to journalists. Smith is the biggest (literally) culprit of exaggeration I've ever seen. And Doan just got owned by Doughty, get over it. PHX take your ass whooping with whatever dignity you may have left!

Waaaaa. Suck it up Yotes fans....you guys have been beaten fair and square. OUR goalie doesn't need to slap players in the backs of the knees.

Where exactly was the smack to the back of the head? Oh ya, nowhere. Looks good in print though.

The Kings have finally gotten to the last sane person standing - Tippet.  What happened to the "I have to worry about my OWN team" meme?  Coyotes have NO answers for the domination of the Kings and they are being humiliated and swept out of the playoffs.  Try to come out of it with SOME dignity left!

Biz also did his job.  Made EVERY other player work harder while he enjoyed the in game entertainment from the bench!

diving a 'disease' for LA sports teams? dave tippet cant face the fact that his team is being outplayed on every level. its cute to divert the blame on 'diving though, nice move

0:39 on the last video. It's hard to tell exactly where the contact's made, hence "or something."

Agreed with the dignity part...don't do something one day and then complain that the other team did it to you the next. Drawing penalties is part of the game.

Think about it this way, that was our payback for the bullhit call on brown whn he was slashed in the back of the knee and somehow was called for embellishing himself.

They're certainly being outplayed at just about every level. I just think it's kind of funny while watching the Lakers, they seem to be flopping fairly often, and if not flopping, they always seem to be trying to pull a fast one on refs one way or another.

What no mention of Mike Smith (who is a great goalie and doesn't need to do so) diving at Kings players and then acting like he's been shot to draw interference penalties?  At least be honest and even-handed when looking at this "disease"

Pathetic writer, haven't see us cry over smith flopping like a fish out of water or how he chops Brown in the back of his leg. All this crying from a coach that probably agree with the hit they lay out on Hossa, big class there tippet. Sore looser.

It's kinda funny watching the Sun's in the playo...oh yeah they're not there. Were talking about how your yotes are getting run out of the playoffs so don't try to bring basketball into the argument. PHX has no answer for what the kings are doing to them so they are resorting to blaming it on the refs. Don't take the easy way out! #losewithdignity

Tip mentioned that both teams were diving, and had benefited from it.  Goalies dive, that's nothing new.

Are the Yotes down 3-0 if the reffing is 50/50?  Possibly, but games 2 and 3 were finished by the refs (gm2: 5/game on Doan on a play that resulted in no suspension and started the penalty parade, and a WEAK slash call on Vrb in gm3 [2 hands on the stick Kopitar!]), not the players on the ice.

Yeah, Chris, I'm with CK here -- Tip said his skaters were starting to do it. As for Smith, I do remember one of the games against the Blackhawks where Smith played one behind the net, contact was made, and Smith acted as if he'd just been decapitated, and some other, more subtle ones. However, the point is -- from what I've seen -- it looks like it's somewhat of a culture for the Kings in this series. The regular-season games between the two were a lot more fun, with better play.
