"Steve thought for a while he wanted to be sheriff. But after talking to him and explaining that I'm on top and want to stay on top, he fully understood and even though he doesn't want to be known as the Under sheriff, that's where he belongs and he knows it. Right, Steve?"
Congratulations to the New Times reader known as A Cunning Linguist, you've won this week's New Times You Write the Caption contest.

On Friday, we asked readers to write the caption for the above photo of Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu -- who dropped his congressional bid earlier this week to run for sheriff again -- and his Chief Deputy Steve Henry, whom Babeu pushed out of his own bid for sheriff.

We picked the five best captions, and put those up for a popular vote.

A Cunning Linguist beat out the rest of the field with the following:

"Steve thought for a while he wanted to be sheriff. But after talking to him and explaining that I'm on top and want to stay on top, he fully understood and even though he doesn't want to be known as the Under sheriff, that's where he belongs and he knows it. Right, Steve?"

To retrieve your prize of a firm handshake and/or high-five, please mail your hand to (or come by and ask for) Matthew Hendley at 1201 East Jefferson Street in Phoenix.
