Tempe Mayor-elect Mark Mitchell
Mark Mitchell's going to be the new Tempe mayor.

According to the unofficial results, Mitchell beat Michael Monti by 139 votes, and the City of Tempe put out an announcement declaring Mitchell as the winner.

Election officials still haven't finished counting write-in votes or the three votes cast by people who didn't bring ID to the polls, but neither of those is enough to change the outcome or force a recount.

Mitchell garnered 11,351 votes, and Monti scored 11,212.

Monti was leading by 222 the night of the election, although that total didn't include early ballots dropped off at the polls or the provisional ballots.

Some people got a little ahead of themselves and declared that Monti had won (ahem), but as one of our readers pointed out in the comments section of our post on the early results, Monti also led Mitchell the night of the primary election.

After counting the early and provisional ballots, Mitchell went up by 277.

As for the two other votes, Kolby Granville beat out Dick Foreman for the open council seat -- as expected after the initial voting results were released -- and voters approved Proposition 439 to get rid of the primary election if there are only two people running for a city elected office.

Turnout was a little less than 27 percent for this election, so if any of the 62,428 registered Tempe voters who didn't vote are upset Monti didn't win, that one's on you.

The final results are expected to be released Friday evening, and they'll be official after being approved by the city council.

Monti IS a creep, a bully, always had the typical "rich kid" attitude and his food SUCKS! Monti's used offer a great meal at a fair price until his father passed away, now it's sheit. I grew up with Monti as well, he's a jackass -you DID NOT want this clown running Tempe. THANK GOD HE LOST!!! SUCK IT DOWN MONTI!! HAHAHA Now go back to your cave and bake some Roman bread.

Hurray, for Mitchell, we certainly do not need Republicians  in any political office, with their terrible ideas and policies.

Monti's a creep! I worked for his dad, who was a decent guy.  Actually put myself through college working at Monti's La Casa Vieja.  Michael Monti was my age and always denegrated the employees there and acted like the rich little snob he was - I actually saw him doing cocaine and pot quite a bit with his rich friends.  I was a Vietnam Vet, putting myself through college and living off my wages from cooking at Monti's and 2 other restaurants and he was a spoiled little rich kid but I'm the one who got talked down to.  Now, the things that go on in that restaurant - if only the walls could talk!  I hope this drubbing will teach him a lesson but I'm guessing it won't.

HA!  Fuck you Shane Wikfors. Fuck you Sonoran Alliance.  Fuck you and the sleazy, slimey, hackneyed campaign of lies you rode in on.

The AZGOP will never be a conservative political party so long as it is run by rightwing radicals.

Clean house - throw out the wingnuts. Say adios to Shane.  Say goodbye to losing any more elections.  Or not ...

Arizona is actually in play for Obama this year, simply because the AZGOP actually follows Shane's communication advice.

Congratulations Mark Mitchell!!  I can't wait to see the planned agenda turning to reality.  Even though I can't vote (I'm a permanent resident from UK), I passionately persuaded and educated many to take interest in the local issues that affect them.  I am also pleased to see that the winner was able to rise above some of the more dishonorable aspects of the election.  It would be great to see some new "green" and "sustainable" initiatives.

Is that the same Dick Foreman  that used to be a lobbyist for South West gas?

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!

I don't live in Tempe and could not vote in this election, but I am thrilled that the Tea Baggers Smear Drama did not work.

Pearce defeated over the Oliva Cortes scam.  Done.

Monti defeated over the "anonymous victim" scam.  Done.

Who's next??

Finally, The People are starting to pay attention and say NO MORE DIRTY STUNTS!

Just glad all the shenanigans is over concerning this election and maybe now some of the issues that need to be dealt with will come to light.

Congratulations, Mr. Mitchell.

The campaigns were dirty on both sides, as is the case with most politicians.
Yes, I understand why those who wait for handouts, rather than work, don't
like Republicans in office, or their ideas and policies.

"Michael Monti was my age"

"I was a Vietnam Vet"

Michael Monti was born in 1967. So you are either a liar, the only person to serve in Vietnam as a toddler, or confusing Michael Monti with one of his older siblings. My guess is that you are a liar.

The election is over guys.

What I find sad is that Shit-for-Brains-Shane, the AZGOP Comm Director, will think the lesson here is not that going dirty doesn't work, but that he didn't go dirty enough.

Expect more slime from the AZGOP so long as Shane Wikfors plays a role.
