Does the Legislature Need to Make Sure Colorado City's FLDS-Lovin' Cops Get Lost?

Attorney General Tom Horne's efforts to replace the police force in Colorado City with deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office was killed in the state House last week, as the legislative session ended.

Colorado City, for those joining late, is the city on the Utah/Arizona border that child rapist Warren Jeffs used to call home, and remains home to members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Horne pushed the bill to legislators, contending that the cops there -- often referred to as the "Marshals" -- were way too sympathetic to polygamists and friends of Jeffs.

"Numerous cases have been documented where the 'Marshals' refuse to investigate serious crimes against the property and persons of 'apostates' or other non followers of Warren Jeffs, when the perpetrators were followers of Mr. Jeffs," the AG's Office said in February.

The House had previously killed the bill to replace the cops in Colorado City, but it was  tacked on to another bill as an amendment in a last-ditch effort to get it passed.

House members didn't accept that either, saying the language wasn't germane to the actual bill.

Horne, who had referred to the proposal to replace the Colorado City cops as his "highest priority in terms of the safety and well being of Arizona citizens," said after the bill failed that he's going to push it again next session.

Our question this morning: Should the Legislature pass a bill to replace the cops in Colorado City?

The two State Representatives from Mohave County voted to help the Warren Jeff's run, police Department.  Doris Goodale and Nancy McClain stopped this law.  Why?  Because Colorado City voters, vote in a bulk, as they are told by the Church.  Hundreds of voters for one person. Doris is running for reelection and Nancy is running for the State Senate.  And that is what their vote was all about. Not saving anyone in Colorado City.

How was the bill worded and why did Horne wait until the last minute to get a bill passed?    So it would fail?

Sheriff Paul Babeu should be appointed Police chief of Colorado City. He is the best man for the job.

And you are an idiot.  Before you decide to be judge and jury, why don't you take a road trip to Colorado City?   You would find a beautiful town of well kept houses and gardens with wonderful people who just want to live the life they are already in. Gradually, they are moving into other communities, but those that are left are in a time warp of 100 years ago.  Exactly what would YOU have then do with the wives and children  who do not want to change?  Send in a sheriff who does not understand the people?

Obviously you do not know that Warren Jeffs is not only in prison, but since his attempted suicide, he is no longer even allowed phone calls. And as in any community, there are groups who may support one candidate over another, just as some still support the FLDS movement and some do not.  Rather than going after two women who have shown concern and understanding, why don't you go after the County Supervisor responsible for that are?  His name is Gary Watson and he lives about 300 miles away in Kingman.  And he couldn't care less about those people or their problems.
