Matthew Giles, Professional Golfer, Drives (a Car) Into a Gilbert House. Cops Thinking Alcohol's a Factor

Matthew Giles, who ranked 111th in driving accuracy in the PGA's Nationwide Tour last year.
Australian professional golfer Matthew Giles took a drive into a Gilbert house on Monday, according to police.

According to the "extreme DUI" charge Giles was booked into jail on, police are thinking alcohol may have had something to do with it.

A little before 10 p.m. Monday, Giles "was traveling at a very high rate of speed and tried to make a left turn, whereby he lost control collided into a single family home," according to a Gilbert police spokesman.

No one was injured, but police say other homes in the area -- the 3600 block of East Fruitvale Avenue -- had to be evacuated after Giles ran over and ruptured a gas line.

According to Giles' PGA profile, he lives in Scottsdale and attended the University of Southern California.

Giles is in the PGA's Nationwide Tour -- kind of like the D-league for golf -- in which he's played in 26 events, and made the cut in 10. He's finished in the top 25 twice, and in the top 10 once.

He missed the cut in his only PGA Tour appearance, but has banked a little more than $50,000 since going pro last year.

And since we're talking about Giles' driving skills, here's what a PGA writer has to say about his (golf) driving:

Giles will have to get a little more accurate off the tee as he ranked just 111th in driving accuracy but his putting was very good ranking 40th in putting average.

Heh.

Giles was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on the extreme DUI charge.

Is Lori suggesting that the car went through the wall and the occupants (Lori said 3-incorrect) exited the car in her living room? I think gross exageration is what makes this situation awkward.

Matthew Giles was lucky he didn't hurt or even kill someone.  He drove 4 1/2 miles from where he had been drinking with two other people in the car who just happen to live next door (ackward) and YES it was my daughters house that he hit ending up in the living room of her house.  He hit the house sooooooooooo hard that it ruptured the gas line pushing the meter into the fireplace of the home.  They smelt the gas leak from three blocks away.

It's possible slippery mike. we all know that America doesn't tolerate red hair and freckles. In Australia we get to see all the wonderful, good looking, intelligent American citizens displaying their attributes on shows such as Jerry Springer.

Smelt is also the past tense of smell.
"verb a simple past tense and past participle of smell."
