The Goodyear teenager who brought a gun to school last year to kill his math teacher was sentenced today to two years in jail.

Izrahias Morales was 15 years old when he brought a the gun to school last February, and was charged as an adult by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

According to authorities, Morales brought a loaded, 9-millimeter handgun to Millennium High School in Goodyear on February 12, 2011, with the intention of shooting his math teacher in the parking lot after school that day.

Morales was mad at the teacher because she'd told him the previous week that if he didn't complete a project he would receive a failing grade in the class.

The project was due Monday -- the same day Morales came to school armed -- and he apparently hadn't completed it.

At one point that day, Morales decided to show off the gun to other students, and one student went to school officials about it.

Morales pleaded guilty last month to to one count each of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm as part of a plea agreement, and was sentenced to seven years of probation in addition to his two years in the clink.

Arizona prosecutors should not put children in prison for this crime. I believe he could have been rehabilated if he had no other criminal record. Jails are full of serious criminals. This young boy may/will be schooled in serious criminal activity. I believe the person(s) who owned the gun should be liable for leaving this serious weapon available for use. This is very irresponsible.

This young boy has already crossed the Rubicon into serious criminal activity. I am a bleeding heart liberal and that said you are an idiot. As opposed to shooting his math teacher, he will have a boyfriend. Do you understand that buddy boy was going to shoot his math teacher? That's a clue...it is already too late for buddy boy!

He is old enough to know right from wrong! He got exactly what he deserved. The excuse he gave was sickening. This was a serious crime and could have been even worse if not controlled the way it was.
