Gilbert Boy, 10, "Accidentally" Shoots 12-Year-Old Sister With Handgun, Say Cops; Dad is Police Officer

Categories: Guns
A 10-year-old boy shot his 12-year-old sister with a handgun by accident, Gilbert police say.

Their dad is a police officer.

The incident happened at about 8:30 this morning, according to a news release just put out by Gilbert police Sergeant William Balafas.

Police learned of the shooting after the girl was already Gilbert Mercy Hospital. She was flown by helicopter from there to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she was said to be in "stable" condition.

KTAR (92.3 FM) is reporting that the shooting happened just outside of Higley Elementary and Middle School, and that the dad, a police officer who was off-duty at the time, "has not been arrested."

Didn't see one single political reference in this article. This is about possible criminal negligence of a father for putting a firearm where his son had access. As a police officer, he should have known better and should be held to a higher standard.
