Authorities are currently searching a landfill for the body of 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley.
Authorities this morning continued their search of a landfill south of the Valley, where they believe they might find the body of missing 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley.

The landfill search started yesterday after months of preparation. Police haven't yet said whether they've found anything related to Shockley's disappearance. However, they've released some photos of the search, which you can see below.

Shockley's been missing since October. Police have since determined that she's likely dead, and that her mother, Jerice Hunter, probably killed her.

Get the details of Shockley's disappearance here.

Authorities say at least 40 people from agencies including the Glendale Police Department, the FBI, and the Child Abduction Response Team, will be at Butterfield Landfill in Mobile every day until the search is complete.

Investigators have narrowed down a 180-by-200-foot area of the landfill where they suspect Shockley's remains might be. The area is 20 feet deep, which amounts to about 6,000 tons of trash investigators will have to sift through.

Jerice Hunter reminds me of the nursery rhyme: "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she didn't know what to do." Having a child is creating a life.  It is a beautiful, precious gift and makes me think sometimes it should be a privilege.  We allow abortion, but sometimes I wish birth control would be mandatory when these abuse situations arise.
(I say this as a teacher with 11 years serving public families).  I have had to deal wit some seriously sad situations, but just cant imagine justifying such horrible treatment to any one of my 5 year old in class.  It is also sickening to think a little girl only went through her first 5 years of life experiencing (and not understanding) pain, terror, and suffering.

that little sweety had such a hell of a life! Her mom was in jail for child abuse, her family kept telling authorities Jhessye was being abused and they did nothing. They are just as responsible for her death as her mother as far as I'm concerned.  I hope her body is found so they can get the info they need to charge her mother, and give Jhessye a proper burial.

Sad story no good ending, one can only find consolation she is in a place where whom ever hurt, killed her can do so no more! God bless her little soul!

Show some respect and refer to Jhessye by her forename not surname.
