Best Potential Candidate For Sheriff: Mike Stauffer, Paul Penzone, Or Joe Arpaio?

• This is why I ask you to look (research) outside the box!  When you speak of older American’s…you must be speaking about me.  My criteria: stud-muffin’s got my 12; who do I want at my six?  I can think of many people…Rich is in the top 5 (and our relationship is adversarial at best)...Arpio doesn't even make the list.

• Kay,  I don't know these guys and they may be great, however, I doubt that any of them or others have the go-nads Sheriff Arpaio has...He is, for the older Americans, a sheriff that was fairly common in the old days.. I don't expect you to understand where I'm coming from.  Sheriff is not a kiss ass sheriff.  I have worked for three different departments and everyone walks on eggshells and try and be politically correct... It makes me sick.  President BAM BAM is not an American and I hope Sheriff beats him into the ground...I hope this case in Georgia goes good for every American Believer of the Constitution.  

• We might need to leave the sand box for this one.  Maybe it's time for fresh eyes and new (better) ideas.  There is a retired Captain out of San Jose, CA named Richard Calderon.  He's a stand up guy and a cops-cop that rose up under former Chief Joseph McNamara (check Stanford's Hoover Institute).  He was recently defeated in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's election by deeply entrenched incumbent Lori Smith. He has some strikes, but any good cop with battle scars does..check him out!!

• "Sheriff Arpaio is truly a Red Blooded American and believes in the United States Constitution." Tell that to Sgt. Thomas Lovejoy...!!!  Or how About Dan Saban, or Gary Donahoe??  Let me know if you need more examples to research. Do you ever slide down off Arpaio's leg long enough to educate yourself and see what's really going on?  Your messiah is going down!!!  So if you have any pent up fantasies going on, you better get them out of your system soon, because federal prisons don't allow conjugal visits.

• I know very little of Penzone to make a decision.  After watching Stauffer's interview with Joe Dana, it is clear he lacks any leadership qualities needed to be the Sheriff of the third largest county in the nation.   I used to question why Stauffer was only a lieutenant in a small agency like Scottsdale.  After seeing him stammer, stutter, slouch, and ramble about unimportant information when given a perfect opportunity to sell himself, it is apparent he his a horrible test taker.  He has zero command presence.  His understanding of law enforcement activities is surprisingly inept for someone having been on the job for as long as he has.  You would think his campaign manager would have taken the time to ensure he was prepared to answer that one difficult question; the hardball question asking him to sell himself.  You promoted to Sergeant and then to Lieutenant?  Really Mike?! and sometimes you are the highest ranking officer? WOW! It's my hope a real candidate emerges soon. Stauffer is the white version of Robert Ayala...

• That's a lazy disrespectful statement from a lazy disrespectful campaign manager. I guess dirty politics from Stauffer's camp is to be expected.

• Yes he's a democrat, and because the system is as it is, and it's an elected position, if Penzone DOES run with no other democrat on the primary ballot for sheriff, he would automatically "win" the primary and vie for the position in the general election against (Independen) Stauffer and (Republican) Arpaio.   Voter turnout in presidential election years is greater than in in-between years.  And unfortunately, there are more ignorant voters who just vote the straight "party line"  regardless of the position.  Hence Penzone's name on the ballot WILL  siphon anti-Arpaio votes from Stauffer.....and intended or not, increase Arpaio's chances of getting elected.

• It takes more than a "good man" to have the education, experience and skills to get MCSO in working order. "Good man" was a mantra of Bush and Cheney. They were "good men" and everybody they appointed or affiliated with, they called "a good man".

• Jmaz, The very reason they are repeat offenders is because they continue to escape from "tent city." Letting them loose is what is being done now, a secured facility is what will be done under Lt. Stauffer's leadership.

• Don't waste a vote on Penzone.  He simply can't win Maricopa County.  Mike Stauffer has more common-sense, reasonable approaches to various law enforcement issues.  He's respected by law enforcement and he respects the front line deputies.  He's not a media whore like Arpaio and, to a much lesser extent, Penzone. 

• Try as I might, I can't find anything about Paul Penzone's positions on important law enforcement issues.  All that's out there is that he's a democrat - which means he can't win Maricopa County.

• Wow, Arpaio's approval ratings are below 15%?  The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

The inhumane treatment of inmates and the lack of rehabilitative services at this facility should be a cause of concern for all citizens.  Under my direction, the "tent city" facility in its present form will cease to exist. As Sheriff I will replace this facility with a self-sufficient work farm for first time and low risk inmates to learn skills, attend rehabilitation programs..."

• And do what with the repeat offenders there?  Let them wild on our streets?  L.A. County has proven that practice is fatally (literally) flawed.

• It would be nice if you spelled the candidate's name correctly.  It's S-T-A-U-F-F-E-R. 

• At this moment, I am supporting Lt. Stauffer, even though I would prefer someone who came right and said that they would close the concentration camp known as "Tent City".

• Dumb comment, Marie.   Results show percentages, not number of readers voting.. Could be that only 15 people voted in the first 3 hours that people read the article. Results thus far are no surprise, since Stauffer announced his serious candidacy last summer, has been campaigning ever since, has good credentials, and his name is becoming familiar to those who've followed all the reported wrongdoing of the sheriiff in the past few months.  Penzone hasn't even officially announced his candidacy yet, hasn't said anything about why he's running,  and he's thought to be a "spoiler," -- in it to dilute "anybody-but-Arpaio" to enhance Arpaio's chances, same reason the Pearce campaign people put up sham candidate Olivia Cortes.  Weird that you would say Penzone is the right choice, when he hasn't said anything yet about why he's running.  You must know him.  Do YOU know who encouraged him to be on that Nancy Grace radio show last year? If you read the transcript, he sounded like a budding Arpaio.
