Phoenix Officer Armando Ramirez
Phoenix police confirmed this afternoon that one of its own is facing felony domestic violence charges stemming from an incident at his Casa Grande home over the weekend.

In addition to being a Phoenix police officer, Armando Ramirez is a reserve in the United States Marine Corps. who just returned from a tour in Afghanistan in September. He rejoined the Phoenix P.D. on December 5.

Phoenix Sergeant Trent Crump says Ramirez -- a 5-year veteran of the department assigned to its problem-plagued South Mountain Precinct -- was arrested early Saturday morning.

Casa Grande police responded to Ramirez's home in the 1900 block of North Renford Lane after there were reports that multiple gunshots were fired.

Police determined Ramirez fired a weapon during an argument with his wife. No one was hurt during the incident, but Ramirez was taken into custody.

Crump says Ramirez has since been assigned to his home by the department's Professional Standards Bureau until investigations are completed by both the Casa Grande Police Department and the Pinal County Attorney's Office.

Crump says the P.P.D. "
is extremely concerned about the alleged conduct of our employee and for the welfare of his family."

We've requested a copy of Ramirez's arrest report to get additional details. Check back for updates.

He can room with Rinaldi.  They can tell stories to each other how tough they are.  We should hear from his butt boys soon how tough he has it.  Cue PTSD to be mentioned over and over

Wtf would you need more details. Leave the logistics to the court and his family. Right now we zhould be standing by those who have served our country. If u had to go through being in middle east and seeing tragedy and accidentally snapped you wouldnt want ppl in ur business. Prayers for mr.ramirez

WELL, maybe he shouldn't have gotten into a fight with her and used a gun during the argument.

I hope he goes to prison for awhile..

This guy is a long time veteran of the Marines. He is currently a volunteer because he will always love to serve this country. He was obviously set off by something very serious....

Really 12 minutes? They only do IA every 4 hrs in Maricopa county. As many charges he was facing, I would be shocked if he got out before morning, longer if a bondsmen is needed

This guy is my cousin. I cannot believe he would jeopardize his carrier for some hood rat.

she's a hood rat-how do you know-is she your sister too?

Nurse Rached

I don't think he would jeopardize his career on purpose for anyone period. His background makes him a prime candidate for PTSD. If psychiatrists diagnose him and he agrees and does treatment, I hope they offer him a plea deal so he can get his life back on track. Im not excusing or condoning his actions but he has risked his life for his community and country, and the price he is paying is losing his sanity. If he gets into treatment he deserves another chance to get get back to the life he once knew.

I don't think we need any more nuts with guns in Arizona, ESP if they are supposed to be the good guys...

sorry but he blew it in my eyes. there are ways to get help BEFORE you start firing a gun at someone, or near them, or whatever.

check Fullerton PD.  they released the video of cops murdering a guy in July on tape then laughing about it.

Planetboxer
Planetboxer

Eff that-let him be a felon since he's charged with a felony. He should of thought about that prior to committing a felonious act.

PTCGAZ
PTCGAZ

he should have thought of that BEFORE he did what he is accused of doing. Sounds to me like he was drunk and got into a fight with his wife, someone who is probably weaker then him and shouldn't be the cause of his anger in the first place.

Like I said, he doesn't have the capacity to handle a weapon, and so therefore he shouldn't be allowed tohave one. If that ends his police/military career then so be it. We need less cops out there blasting people, tazering them, etc for no reason. (if you don't think this is a problem spend a few hours watching youtube.com videos of police brutality. Then ask yourself why are the cops picking on weak people all the time?)

PTCGAZ
PTCGAZ

then maybe they need to be changed before MORE innocent people are murdered by out of control cops/military people..

He has the double whammy of probable PTSD from his combat experience, and working at a job where the alcoholism rate is twice the national average and the suicide rate is triple. Both the military and the law enforcement cultures encourage "sucking it up" instead of admitting a problem and getting help.

Nurse Rached
Nurse Rached

Yea, there is, too bad the military culture discourages it. I'm not saying let him have a gun back anytime soon. But a felony conviction will ruin his life. Let him be on probation a few years with a mental health treatment requirement.

Larry
Larry

You better be extra careful when your around him. he may shoot you next cuz.

Shooter McGaven
Shooter McGaven

This is too bad. It's not okay what he did, but imagine the horrible shit he saw, and just returned home from. I hope it works out for him and his family. A domestic violence conviction would end his career, and make him unable to even have a weapon.

PTCGAZ
PTCGAZ

he shouldn't take that shit out on his wife, it's not like she was doing all the horrible things he say.

I think he should be charged with a crime, and be fired from the PD. He can't control his temper and he shot his gun, I am assuming at or near his wife.

It's unacceptable for someone to do something that stupid and stay a member of the police department.

shadeaux14
shadeaux14

If convicted, even if they were to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor, he will be banned by federal law from possessing a firearm and/or ammunition. This will prevent him from working in law enforcement and will end his military career.

If he keeps his nose clean for a few years, he can petition the court to restore his right to possess a firearm.

PTCGAZ
PTCGAZ

fine, but I still dont think he should be able to carry a firearm. (at least if what was alleged is true) If he is convicted even to a lesser charge (ya know the save his career since he's a good guy BS)  then he still shouldn't be able to carry a firearm. The reason why is he has proven he doesn't have the capacity to carry one safely.

Jason, I know that my views aren't popular here in AZ but the studies have been done, and it's hard to ignore them, despite what the lobbyists for the NRA say.

Another issue that is similar is using cell phones while driving. Lobbyists for the cell phone companies, and carriers are trying to paint them as safe when in reality they arent.
