Man Robbed of Assault Rifle After Placing Ad; Shoots Wildly at Fleeing Suspect

A man who placed an ad on backpage.com for an AR-15 assault rifle had the gun stolen from him -- then shot at the fleeing suspect with a handgun, hitting a Valley Metro van.

The messy gun deal went down in the parking lot of Sportsman's Warehouse, 1750 South Greenfield Road in Mesa, at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday, cops say.

The victim, whose name wasn't released, met the supposed buyer outside the store after the man responded to the ad. The suspect hopped in the seller's truck and pulled out a handgun. Seconds later, he exited the truck with the victim's rifle, cell phone and truck keys.

The suspect jumped into his small sedan, a blue or gray Ford Fusion or Taurus, and drove off. That's when the victim drew his own handgun from an ankle holster and snapped off three rounds in the suspect's direction.

Police later found that one of the rounds had hit a parked Valley Metro van. No word on whether anyone was inside, but there were no injuries reported. (Under Arizona law, by the way, no legal protection is offered for someone who shoots an innocent bystander, even if the person's use of deadly force is justified.)

A Sportsman's Warehouse manager wasn't available for comment. Cops say the store's surveillance cameras weren't pointed toward the location of the transaction.

They shut down craigslist, so why is backpage allowed to stay open?  All of these sites are the same, if you close one another one will be open.  If you close backpage now another will take it's place like http://www.classivox.com for example...

If the faggot had any nuggetts, like he pretended to have by firing some rounds, he would have said no to the robber. Faced him up. Called him out. He would have forced the dude to man up and shoot. But no, he was a puss.

I'm all for self-defense, but only if you're life is in grave and imminent danger. But let's face it, that clumsy gun-toter who was possibly strapped full of weapons all over himself, was hereby reckless. You don't go out in a blaze of glory and start cappin off rounds at fleeing suspect(s) in open public places(such as a shopping center parking lot). That's clearly idiotic mane.

Let's see...the military, NATO or whatever murderous bunch, kills over a million people in Iraq and Afganistan and then someone gets all hot over gun related deaths in this country and tries to relate it all to 911.   There's no honor in those wars.   Why even bring them up?    They have nothing to do with each other.    Oh, I can hear the frothing of the mouths already...

The pistol is the devils right hand. this story is more proof of that. even though it was not a pistol.

Let's agree to pass laws that keep citizens' rights intact yet also keep dangerous weapons our of the hands of dangerous people.  We'll have less chance of something like this happening.  Over 50,000 people have been killed since 9/11 from accidental gun shootings.  We waged two wars and spent trillions of dollars after having 3000 people killed in one incident.  Yet we have done NOTHING to address the problem of over 50,000 people who have been killed since 9/11 from accidental gun shootings. This  is not patriotic, it's idiotic.
