Something's gotta be up.

Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley -- the architect for the city's now flailing Phoenix Coyotes Arena and mega-city projects such Westgate City Center and Main Street -- has announced his plans to retire in 2012 to spend more time with his family.

He's been with the city for 17 years, and he makes his announcement on Friday evening?

Beasley could not be reached for comment.

Here's the message Beasley sent to Glendale employees at about 4:35 p.m.:
I want to take an opportunity to thank everyone for the work you have done this year.  Without your service and dedication, we would not be the outstanding city that we are.  Your continued commitment to this community through quality service and professionalism is immeasurable, and I feel truly blessed to be a part of this organization.

As we enter the new year, we look forward to an improved economy and continued innovation in service.  As I think about my future, I see an opportunity to spend more time with my family, and therefore have decided to retire in 2012.  I have truly enjoyed my 27 years in public service, 17 of which have been at the City of Glendale.  Thank you for all you have done and for your support.

I wish you all a happy holiday season and look forward to our success in the coming year.

It hasn't been a good year for Beasley given the ongoing drama with the NHL and the Phoenix Coyotes, the foreclosure of Westgate City Center and, it's worth mentioning that one of Beasley's closest advisers (and the city's lobbyist), Gary Husk, is reportedly on federal investigators' radar for being part of an alleged conspiracy involving the Fiesta Bowl and illegal political contributions.

I am being totally honest and I don't mean to offend anyone. Seriously, I would hand Ed a bill for 27 years of taking up space. He literally has been worthless. Somebody check his pockets on the way out the door.

27 years of absolutely worthless service. I complete waste of tax payer money - like welfare only worse. Beasley is completely incompetent and useless. In all honesty, he should be lynched for stealing his paycheck.

You don't buy judges.   Their minds are made up by someone else in cases of importance.  Glendale should have left the tribe alone.   The casino would have helped the Westgate area with bringing people to the area.  Westgate is just too far to go just to see a movie or eat.  Hockey will never make it here.   Glendale hooked up with some poor business partners and a lot of people being paid off to cooperate.   I feel bad for the mayor and I know her personally.   She's worked hard for the city while battling breast cancer and losing both parents within a year.   It's the city council and city manager who have brought Glendale to the state they are in now.   The city had a lot of potential but it's all been wasted by corruption and greed.   Just like the nation.    Glendale can recover but it will take an honest city council with some brains.   Our country on the other hand is a walking dead man looking for a place to fall.   It will not be allowed to recover.

This is yet more fallout from the City of Glendale losing, and I mean LOSING, it's fight to keep the indigenous peoples of this area from reclaiming their property rights and destiny.  The Tohono Oodahm now can build whatever they want on land they own - FOREVER!!!!  The U.S. Government just kicked the City of Glendale and the financial investors in WESTGATE and the Jerry Ellman crowd to the curb - That was what the City of Glendale's lobbyist was fired and now what this lawbreaker is being scuttled - they failed in their job to keep the indians out of the business of entertainment in the West Valley.  Elman and company wanted a government controlled monopoly on that business - well suck on it millionaires.  This is America and you can't buy judges (well some you can - Motorola bought Ryan!). I'd like to see an update on whether the Mayor of Peoria is invited to cut the Ribbon on the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Resort Casino?

Gosh, maybe now Beasley will have time to serve out his sentence for that TRIPLE EXTREME DUI he was convicted of on Ja. 26, 2002 - but for which he never lost his license (supposed to be mandatory), never paid any fines (supposed to be mandatory) and never served a single day in jail (supposed to be mandatory)?

Give the guy a break, this is just another rendition of the "Official" state song;

"Take The Money and RUN"

How much you want to bet he qualifies for a pension.

\Listen, everyone know Beasley is useless and incompetent. We all know it was welfare to pay his sorry black ass, but come on, we are trying to be nice until he dies. Hopefully, it will be a horrible death so everyone will be satisfied, but until then, let's try to pretend he earned the money even though that is ridiculous to even consider.

You're wrong cretan.  Judges are bought quite often.  My mother bought a judge to insure that she got a large settlement in her divorce.  She was well liked in the community and my father was not as much.  This was in the 1970s.  She paid $1,000.00 and bought a judge - TRUE.  She has the cancelled check too!

An indigenous casino.  Right next to the ballcourt at Snake Town.  Build it at the Oodahm nation. This location was not in it.  Sells or Chuichu would be OK.

I actually went to high school with Ed. Back in the day, we called him Big Nipples McGee. He did a really mean Fat Albert imitation and he stayed in that character at all times. He'd walk up to girls like he was Fat Albert, grap their nipples and yell "Big Nipples Grab!" then we'd all laugh like crazy. He was a terrible student but the teachers couldn't fail him or his parents would scream racism... so he was passed along.... I hated that guy, this guy Ed "Big Nipples McGee"....
