Did Rachel Brock Get Off Easy? New Times Readers Seem to Think So

rachelbrocknewmug.jpg
MCSO
Rachel Brock spent less than a week in county jail after getting arrested for having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy.
Rachel Brock, the daughter of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years supervised probation and a deferred one-year in jail after pleading guilty to charges that she sexually abused the same boy her mother, Susan Brock, was convicted of molesting.

See our cover story on the Brock family's sexual circus -- and the county supervisor's attempts to cover up the abuse -- here.

Brock pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse with sexual motivation for having a sexual relationship with the then-13-year-old victim, a family friend the Brock family met through their Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Brock, at the time of much of the abuse, was 18.

Click here for details of the relationship.

Susan Brock, who pleaded guilty in January to three counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor for abusing the same boy, is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence.

Rachel Brock, who got popped last December, served less than a week in jail following her arrest.

Several New Times readers say Rachel got off easy (no pun intended, perverts). Some even suggest there's a double-standard, and that men convicted of sex crimes are treated much more harshly than women.

EValleyGuy posted the following on our post about Brock's sentencing (which you can see by clicking here):

What a double standard we have here. She does a minor male and gets probation. If it was reversed the male would be doing 3-5 years and probably ten years probation.

Plea or no plea she should have done time in jail and not a hand slap.

FreedomFighter chimed in with a story of his own [all sic]:

Thats it?? Thats all she got?? My brother whom has medium to high functioning autism and the mentality of a 10 year old (and thats on a good day) is looking at spending the next 80 years in prison for alledgedly viewing topless pictures of a 16 year old girl. He didnt know the girl, just downloaded some pictures. For that he will pay with his life. But im glad Fulton Brock was able to make sure his daughter didnt feel the wrath of Az's sex laws. Mr Brock, my brother was charged with crimes much less serious then your daughter was. If you have any decency in you then you will personally see to it that others in your situation recieve the same treatment your family has.

We want to know what you think: did Rachel Brock get a slap on the wrist for having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy?

Definitely a double-standard because she's a girl. I do not condone any of these actions however "fit the time with the crime" and if she were a boy this would not be happening!

Freedom fighter-your story is very frightening in that people such as your brother have certain protections under the law. Who is his attorney? And who is the prosecutor? I have spent many years working with children and adults with autism as well as aspergers. You need to contact SARRC.

Just goes to show, it's not what you know in the Arizona Justice System, it's who you blow.

Hmmm...let's see...you can get caught with nothing more than some images of "child porn" (however widely or narrowly defined that may be) on your hard drive and your freedom is PERMANENTLY FORFEITED thanks to sentences in the range of lifetimes and yet you can actually be responsible for raping children and get a small fraction of the "hard drive crime," or maybe a slap on the wrist.

We not only have two systems of justice and law enforcement, one for the wealthy, powerful, and well-connected and one for the rest of us, but our deeply flawed system is full of all manners of inconsistencies thanks to dumbass legislators, like instituting much harsher sentencing for crack cocaine than for powdered cocaine.

She should serve the full 10 years in prison along with her mother.  Any thing less is totally unacceptable...............

May be cause I'm a guy, but I voted that she did get a light sentence -- as compared to what a man would get -- but frankly, I am not that offended by this "crime" -- more like a favor for the boy.  I just can't see it the same way as an older male abusing a young girl.  I just can't -- to me it seems that the boy was just lucky and I cannot imagine he wanted it to stop.  I guess cause I'm a guy -- sorry -- I just don't see it the same.  She did get a light sentence, but I do not begrudge her that.

It would be interesting to see what the current 4% that think she didn't get off easy think....?

Simply amazing....what a justice system we have. It is F......N Twisted and BS.  Same crime, same child = 13 years in prison vs 10 years probabtion..WOW!....Lock up all these stupid ass Judges and jurors who do this shit and think its fair

Courtney Bisbee's mother Camille could tell you just how unjust Racheal Brocks sentence is

How can we stand by and watch our prosecutors and judges selectively choose whos lives they will destroy and who they will spare?? The types of charges mean nothing to how long they get, only thing that matters is who they know and how much money they have.

If MCSO was the one to do the "investigation", she'd be running a school for troubled teen boys right now..

Actually I once mentioned the prosecuting attorneys name in one of my posts on here and she informed my brothers attorney that if I do it again I will be running the risk,of her seeking the max sent. of 80 years vs. the plea she has offered of 24 yrs plus life time probation. My brother would be better off if he just killed himself. He would never make it out of prison alive anyways given the severity of his autism, he would become the easiest prey in there.

I would give my life to save him. It feels like he is being used as some kind of sacraficial lamb ,

The pictures he alledgedly viewed were of a 16 yr old girl, not a child. They were the result of some girl "sexting" a boyfiend , he then posted them on line.

I whole heartedly agree that the punishment for possession of photographs is insanely stupid as compared to actually committing the crime.  It flies in the face of common sense.

I don't believe you. You're example does not meet sentencing guidelines for pics of a 16 year old's breasts. Either you are embellishing the sentencing caps or you are mitigating te crime your "brother" committed. Its more likely that You are the perp and the attorney is stating you are violating your release conditions by being on the Internet.

Hahahah... too funny, yet so true....lol.  Perhaps sexually repressed peeps flock to churches -- not to say they all are -- I'm just saying a segment of church-goers may be that  -- don't want to offend any good church-goers.

Hahaha.. that's mean ... well, she is no 10 or 9 or 8 -- but that's not the point.  We guys know that we all had fantasies when we were young.  The boy just had his come true -- he should be thanking her.  Don't pull that "I'm scared for life" crap either because as guy, I can say -- no you are not.  In fact, the only scars are from the media frenzie around the debacle, but I cannot imagine that he regretted any of the actual (gasp) "criminal" acts.

lolz so I should go to CC in BCC and listen to Pastor Huck lie his ass off so that I can score with a church girl... I think I would rather go solo then sit through 5 minutes of that asshat speaking.  Actually church is an easier place to meet horny females that are friendly and wanting sex than most bars or singles websites. they are more trusting and not so paranoid or on guard in church as in the bar. I have tried it and it works. church girls are friendly trusting and horny. im not shitting you Brothers out there this is 100% true.

Anyone can go online and view true crime pictures of a homicide. In fact thousands if not hundreds of thousands people viewed the horrific video of Daniel Pearl being be headed by terrorists. Are those people supporting the actions of the murderes? Did anyone who downloaded and viewed the video of Daniel Pearls death need to be arrested for viewing such a dispicable crime? Further more, if you looked into some of the recent child pornography cases the media has covered NOT ONE OF THE PEOPLE ARRESTED PAID ANY MONEY FOR THE IMAGES THEY WERE CHARGED WITH. They are getting it free off peer to peer sites. So has is that morbid curiosity any worse then those who watched Daniel Pearls head get cut off, after he begged for his life??????

PTCGAZ
PTCGAZ

your argument is asinine. I really can't follow your logic. The whole point behind making child porn illegal is because no one should profit from the abuse of children.

Injustice System
Injustice System

That's their justification, but it is definitely not necessarily the case.  Generally speaking, I think that rationale is incredibly flimsy.  It's like saying everyone who ever came across a Playboy was somehow involved in abusing those women, regardless of how old it is or how many times it changed hands.

With respect to the means by which whatever allegedly criminal original images were obtained, think about how many decades-old (or older) magazines are out there in circulation, in garages, in attics, wherever.  On top of that there are probably hundreds of thousands or millions of personal photographs that could be digitized and the same pictures, if shared, could result in countless individuals being imprisoned for life because they happen to come across and save copies of the images.

I don't know exactly what constitutes child porn (and I've never seen anything close), but  what if, for example, someone takes some old nudist magazines from the 1940's or 1950's featuring happy nude families frolicking gleefully in the sun, including obviously underage children, and they scan those pictures of the families or just the children, and then share them online.  In such cases, there never was an original crime or victims, but depending on the specifics of the laws being applied, those completely innocent images, regardless of how they may be perceived or used by whomever finally downloads copies of them, could be enough for some poor saps to have their freedom permanently confiscated.

If someone is responsible for getting children to perform sex acts and is taking pictures, then by all means, come down hard on them (so to speak), but aside from a case like that (and of the many cases I've seen reported in the media, NONE of them were such a case, yet their sentences were all akin to someone who murdered a handful of people), then I question whether the extreme punishment doled out even faintly resembles "justice."
