Congressman Ben Quayle: Eric Holder Must Step Down. Still Mum on Joe Arpaio

New Times
Congressman Ben Quayle apparently has no thoughts on Joe Arpaio's several hundred botched sex crime investigations.
Arizona Congressman Ben Quayle today officially joined several other GOP members of Congress in calling for Attorney General Eric Holder to step down over "Fast and Furious," the Justice Department's botched gun-running sting.

Previously, Quayle politely asked Holder if he had any intentions of stepping down.

Quayle, however, remains mum on the consequences he thinks Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio should face over his agency's bungled sex-crime investigations.

See how each of Arizona's five Republican congressman responded to Arpaio's 432 botched sex-crime investigations here (spoiler alert: not a single GOP congressman has had the cojones to say a word about Arpaio's current PR crisis).

We sent Quayle spokesman Richard Cullen another email asking if the congressman would join some of his Democratic colleagues in calling for America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff" to call it a career. We got no response.

We sent him yet another email asking for an explanation of how Holder's bungling of "Fast and Furious" is any different from Arpaio's sex-crime mess. Again, crickets.

See Quayle's entire statement on Holder below -- and feel free to try and get your own answers out of Cullen by emailing him at Richard.Cullen@mail.house.gov.

"Fast and Furious was a fundamentally flawed operation. Since its implementation, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and numerous Mexican citizens have been killed by criminals using weapons that were allowed to 'walk' during the program. These weapons continue to pose a grave threat to people living near the Southern border. These facts alone signify a lack of leadership and control within the Justice Department that warrant the removal of those people who authorized and failed to supervise this damaging operation.

"When the incredible failures of Fast and Furious came to light, Attorney General Holder and his subordinates chose the route of evasion over forthrightness. They provided documents to Congress only when compelled to produce them with subpoena. These documents revealed that on February 4, 2011, senior officials at the Justice Department, the ATF and the Arizona U.S. Attorney's Office responded to an inquiry by Senator Charles Grassley with a letter that contained categorically false information. Ten months later, the Justice Department was forced to rescind that letter--a move the attorney general acknowledged is extremely rare. During last week's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, the attorney general refused to take responsibility or hold any of his subordinates accountable for their handling of Fast and Furious. Mr. Holder himself called the operation 'wholly unacceptable' and 'fundamentally flawed.'

"The fact that he hasn't fired a single person shows that Attorney General Holder is more concerned with protecting himself and his political appointees than holding individuals accountable for Fast and Furious. I have refrained from calling for his resignation until he had a chance to testify before the Judiciary Committee. Asking for a cabinet member to resign is a serious step and one I take very seriously. After reflecting on last week's testimony, the operation, and Mr. Holder's handling of the fallout, I have lost all confidence in his ability to lead the Justice Department. I call for his immediate resignation."

Hate to say I agree with Dickface Quayle but at the same time could someone explain to me how this little fuckboy got elected...it's a rhetorical question. Wrote his campaign manager suggesting that his fuck buddy was a lazy ass trust fund puke who never had a real job...got a very nasty letter...must have hit a sore spot...but nevertheless...this little boy is a lazy ass trust fund sissy who never had a real job and to your buddies if they can read...why don't you and your spoiled little friend Benny get fucking real  jobs?

Holder should be lynched for his horrible performance. That is obvious. Yes. Resign and lynch yourself today.

Mr. Quayle issued this statement in writing, demanding that Mr. Holder resign.

I wonder if he would actually sit face to face and say the same?

Why is he not worried about voters in Arizona who have been victimized at least twice, once by the perpetrator and once by the Maricopa County Sheriff?

432 cases of reported sex crimes. Most of them not investigated.

Sad stuff.

Mr. Quayle should show that he cares.

Perhaps his moral compass is still pointed east to Washington and he simply doesn't care about us voters in Arizona.

As I see it, Ben Quayle is against investigating sexual assaults and favors leaving the bad guys on the street to offend again.  What could Quayle add to his silence?

Just because Arpaio is bad does not mean that Holder is good.

If it is hypocritical to deman Holder resign, but not Arpaio, what of the converse?  Is it not hypocritical to demand Arpaio step down, but not Holder?

I don't understand why Quayle is upset over fast and furious. it has resulted in the deaths of possibly hundreds of mexicans, whom Quayle doesn't like, with mininal collateral damage ( one border patrol agent).

Will Benny Quayle act like a MAN for the first time in his life and also request that Arpaio resign?

Of course not!  He's too busy crying about redistricting!

lol just love how the GOP has conveniently forgotten that under Bush a very similar program was also in effect...But as far as Quayle goes, what do you expect? Hes a pathetic, ignorant, worthless POS...i fully expect him to not do the right thing. ..

Isn't Fast and Furious ONE botched investigation.  Sheriff Arpaio has 432.  I was going to ask Ben how many were enough: If not 432, would 700 be enough?  1,000?

But I guess if it's a Democrat, one is too many; if it's Sheriff Arpaio, no number is too many.

Sheriff Arpaio's operation is clearly fundamentally flawed.  Therefore on behalf of my ever addled father, I resign from Congress in protest of the Sheriff's terrible record, other than getting his mug in ANY media, that is.

If ANYONE needs to step down, it is Ben Quayle.

The mere fact that he and his GOP miscreant buddies aren't outraged by the MCSO shurf and his complete and utter failure to do his job and enforce the law, as he is hired and paid to do, is absolutely inexcusable, not to mention disgusting.

Quayle needs to stop antagonizing Holder (whose office is leading the way in the abuse of power investigation, of which the MCSO shurf is the subject) and join his Democratic colleagues in calling for the Flaccid Fool's ouster. Or Mr. Quayle will find himself in the unemployment line.

In this case, he's too busy crying about a Republican-initiated gun-walking operation which he's blaming on Holder.

has is Fast& Furious a botched investigation? or is that only because the GOP can't pin in on the Democrats because it wasn't started by them?

apparently Ben Quayle doesn't know that the thing that everyone blames Holder for was started not by Obama, not by anyone in his administration, but rather it was started in 2007. (It might even have started before then, but emails that are being investigated by the government were from 07...according to someone I know who is working on the investigation...)

Yeah, and Paul Babeu is a known straight. Always do what he sez or...

Too funny.  You'll find the same silent Republican Arpaio supporters are silent on the Babeu issue, too.

BTW, Benny's parents are Babeu financial supporters.

If Fast and Furious could be hung around the necks of Republicans Holder already would have done it.  That is the way both parties work.  Nobody in politics misses an opportunity to blame the other guys.

Dubya was president then. And we had a Republican U.S. Attorney General.

I fully believe that Quayle is using this Fast & Furious issue to derail the federal abuse of power (which has a federal GJ currently convened) and racial profiling investigations Holder's DOJ has open on the MCSO shurf, with potential indictments to be handed up on the abuse of power investigation.

What Quayle needs to do is keep his yap-trap shut and let Holder do his job and bring the Old Fool to his knees.

lol the GOP is so full of crap. It's like they can do no wrong, but if a democrat tries to stop them, they try and lie their way into being the good guys when in reality they aren't at all.
