Should County Supervisors Finally Let Joe Arpaio Use His Stupid Bus?
|It's just a friggin' bus!|
The bus, which cost a cool $456,000, has been rotting away in a county parking lot since Arpaio used money from his "Jail Enhancement Fund" to purchase it in 2009.
In what has come across as an attempt to stick it to America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff," the BOS has refused to license the bus because it believes Arpaio never had the authority to purchase it.
"I had the authority to use the funds the way I see fit," Arpaio grumbled when the BOS first sidelined his precious bus.
Since its purchase, the pricey bus has suffered over $20,000 in damage -- much of which happened during a hail storm in October of 2010. It's also been exposed to the oppressive Phoenix heat for what is now three summers.
One way or another, something needs to happen with this friggin' bus.
Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery advised the BOS a few months ago that it can legally title and register the bus and allow the sheriff to use it to do what it's intended to do: transport inmates.
Another option would be to sell the gaudy bus and buy something less expensive.
The third option would be for the BOS to continue this petty fight with a stubborn sheriff and not allow him to use -- or sell -- this stupid bus.
Either way, we want to know what you think: What should happen with Arpaio's bus?
