Mary Rose Wilcox to Run for Re-Election in 2012; First Elected to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in 1992
Mary Rose Wilcox
She's been shot in the butt.
Criticized for questionable deals.
Indicted twice by a grand jury -- only to see her charges dropped and her accuser face potential disbarment.
But Mary Rose Wilcox, one of five members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors since being elected in 1992, isn't giving up her fight.
The Board's sole Democrat confirmed during a Monday news conference that she'll be running for re-election in 2012.
Wilcox had previously said she wasn't sure if she'd run again. But at a Monday news conference at her Phoenix restaurant, El Portal, she was surrounded by friends and supporters -- including Democratic Congressman Ed Pastor and Phoenix mayor-elect Greg Stanton -- as she made her announcement.
She thanked her parents for giving her the tenacity to overcome the obstacles she's faced over the years and for telling her to remember how "in the end, good will prevail." Cronkite News Service covered the event and produced a short video report.
Raising money might not be an issue for this campaign... assuming Wilcox sees a handsome payout in the lawsuit she's got pending against the county.
